Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi again,

A while back I asked what type of doodle you all thought Murphy was...I think he is 18 inches high and 23-24 pounds.  Well I finally got the DNA test and I am waiting on the results (2 more weeks), but what about a Carinoodle.  What do you think?  Are there many of them out there?

Thanks

Colleen

LOL well we had an ALD come back as a Puli recently.

Hey, that's my little Pulidoodle you're talkin' about!! LOL!! Well, it least it led to a great adventure with Spud being corded!! So it wasn't a complete waste!!!

Seriously though I have "heard" that the DNA tests are more accurate in a first cross situation and less accurate with multigen crosses such as the ALDs. So hopefully no Great Danes will show up in little Murphy's test results!! :)

I almost want the Great Dane to show up in him.....just to make it kinda funny.  I know they are not 100% accurate so I am going into this with that understanding.

I think he has some cairn or westie in him....leaning more towad Westie.  I have grown up with cairns...is he feisty like they are :)?????
PLEASE let me know what the results are-did you get an over the counter DNA test or did the vet do it?? My husband is convinced that Myla is mixed with something else (mostly cat!) Thanks!

I did an over the counter one.  I asked my vet and he did not express a desire to do it, so I let it go.  Now when I asked him to sex my bird (done with DNA) he did that....that is why I let it go....there had to be a reason he was not interested.

Ok.... that is weird.
Ok, I finally did the test and the results are in........drum roll please........They say Murphy is…..……

Bichon Frise Mix crossed with Russell Terrier

He appears to be a “pure breed” Russell on one side and a mix with Bichon Frise on the other side.

They said the 5 next best breed matches for the mixed ancestry could be:
1. Yorkshire Terrier 8.07%
2. Poodle 7.18%
3. Labrador Retriever 2.69%
4. Boston Terrier 1.25%
5. German Pincher 1.21%

Personality wise he fits into the profile for the Bichon and the Russell, but height and weight wise, he is taller and heavier (and vet says he is a good weight, not fat or skinny).

I am thrilled with the results, but a little disappointed that there was not more poodle in him, at least no Great Dane right?

Thanks all for all your thoughts.

Colleen

I can definitely see Murphy being that mix; as for being taller and heavier, a lot of our doodles are taller than either of their parent breeds, and maybe heavier than most, too.

Don't be disappointed about anything; in the end, regardless of what breeds he is, he's still Murphy, he's yours, and you love each other. What else matters?

You are ABSOLUTELY correct....Murphy is MINE and I just LOVE him to pieces.....dont know how I ever lived without him.

Wow that is quite a combo!! All I know is that he is DARN cute!! :)  And he DOES like kinda poodley!!

But remember my ALD came back with quite a bit of Puli in her DNA and her lineage is documented for generations with no Puli in sight anywhere. So who really knows???

Ok, I will keep in the "front" of my mind that your ALD came back with Puli so my Murphy could be MORE poodle than they are saying.
