We had thunderstorms tonight. Haley reacts very poorly to thunderstorms so a few weeks ago his vet prescribed Trazadone to help him get through these storms. I gave him a pill about an hour before the storms were to hit. Haley got agitated about the time they hit. The pills have worked quite well before so I thought he may need to go potty (the symptoms are the same). It was raining so I put his raincoat on him and put mine on and out we went to the back porch. I opened the screen door to the outside; Haley went out and as I looked to step down I saw THE BIGGEST BLACK SNAKE that I have ever seen! I screamed for Otis who was nearby in the kitchen. I was afraid that Haley would get bitten by the snake because he was trying to get too close to it. Otis came out and I got Haley into the garage while Otis caught the snake and relocated it. We do not kill black snakes because they eat rodents. After the snake was gone Haley and I went back to the house and he was calm even though it was thundering. I think Haley heard, smelled or somehow sensed that the snake was outside the house and was trying alert us to it.

Haley would be my hero! I do not like snakes. When my boys insisted on having them as pets, they were instructed NEVER to let me know if they got out of their aquariums....
When I was a child I would catch small snakes. One day I caught a small green snake and took it to a neighbor to show her. She wasn't at all pleased. As a matter of fact she was terrified and pulled down the disappearing stairway and retreated to the attic.
Good boy Haley! I'm glad he didn't get hurt. Snakes totally freak me out.
I would have had a heart attack and died if I had seen that. I freak out and scream at little garden snakes. I think they can sense or smell when things aren't right. A few weeks ago Annabelle alerted me to an unwelcome visitor in our garage. It took me awhile to figure out what she was upset about. I am interested in the Trazadone. We had storms with hail 3 different times on Sunday, and poor Annabelle was a nervous wreck.
It has worked well for nearby thunder but so far we haven't had any overhead that really freaks Haley out. I'm not sure if this is a new medicine or if Haley's vet has just started prescribing it for whichunderstorms.
