Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Thanks for all the well wishes. It seems they worked! :) We met up at the dog park, they played together for about an hour while us humans did the questions exchange. At the end of the play date, the wife said, well I think you guys are just wonderful, how would you guys like to take her home overnight for a trial run? I wanted to do a trial anyway, and there's no time like the present, so we took her home with us.
We fed them separately because as expected, Ruckus was not his normal polite self at meal time. He also displayed some jealousy, when I was fawning over Sandee (soon to be known as Sadie), but got over it when he found out that I have two hands and can pet two dogs at the same time. What a concept! Playtime got a bit rough at times, but we separated them for a breather, and they calmed down before starting another round. We all slept through the night in the same room, no issues.
On Saturday morning, DH and I were giving ear scratches & belly rubs. Sweet Sadie snuggled up and gave kisses to both of us. Hearts melted, and it was a done deal.
We called to say we'd take her, and we all decided that she should go back with them for the week. So they can say final goodbyes (they have four kiddos, and it was the older kids who decided they needed to find a nice new home with a fence and a buddy to keep her safe), and so we can arrange to take time off of work to ensure we have time to oversee the transition for more than a weekend.
She comes home on Saturday. We're prepping for her arrival with vet appointments and advanced obedience classes (that Ruckus is also taking), and of course a new toy for all. We're thrilled, and nervous in a good way, but overall really excited that our family is complete (at least by way of 4-legged creatures!).
