Ok please be forwared if you are very tender hearted you might not want to read ahead.
i stiill have yet to meet jake but have been talking with his current owner. He says Jake is sweet, playful and loves people and dogs. But he has an obsession with drinking water excessively. I asked about diabetes, renal kidney issues, etc. and his owner says tests were done showing clean results.

Now, I would probably want new tests but the owner also said that his vet thinks its psychogenic water consumption probably brought on by the fact that he is being left in his crate for so long. The owner admitted that he has left jake regularly in his crate up to 20 hrs because he is on the road for his job (omg!) and this sounds like it happens multiple times a week. The owner says he at times restricts jakes water so he can hold it that long in the crate. He's a 6 month old puppy! So when he gets out of his crate he drinks until he throws up. :(

I can't begin to tell you my emotions on this but I feel even stronger about saving this boy. I don't have the owners address but I will be meeting up with him tomorrow. At this point, I am taking Jake.

Please don't bash me as I am trying to get to this dog ASAP. I have no idea whether he has medical issues causing the water intake but from the sounds of it, this doodle has a right to feel like it needs to gulp all the water and food it can, when it can. I am so sad and mad right now.

Any advice would be appreciated but please again, don't bash me. I honestly don't think going in guns blazing is going to help get this dog out of there. And I know what a terrible situation.

Thanks for any support.

Ok guys I'm meeting him this afternoon. I want to take him today but as I said before my 8 year old has a horse show this weekend and we will be at the arena for 3 1/2 hrs. I really do not want jakes first day with us to be tomorrow because Brisby stays in his crate when we need to leave. Brisby is fine and although my dog is out most of the day with us we do crate him if we are gone for a few hours. I would hate for jake to come here and then tomorrow morning be stuck in a crate even though it would only be a few hours. I think better would be to pick him up after the show, kwim?
I would take him into your possession first chance you get. Chances are he'd be in a crate regardless. Who knows if or when this guy will be available again.
I agree with Karen.

Jenn, good decision!

Jenn, I wouldn't worry about having to crate him for a few hours.. He will have to be crated sometimes and this short time will be much easier on him. I wouldn't take the chance on this moron changing his mind.

It seems he may feel safe in a crate for a few hours while you are gone. I just hate to think of him in that environment one minute longer than need be. You will know best what to do. Trusting your decision either way.

Take him home!  Put him in a crate next to Brisby and he will feel safe.

I would get that baby asap if I were you, even if you have to put him in an empty bathroom, or laundry room, even a crate would be better for 3 hrs. he would probably be in the crate for longer than that.

Oh wow, now I understand. And again, thank you for saving this boy!

Kudos to you!  Awards to you!  Kisses for you!  Thank you for getting him.  He deserves a much better life than he has had for 6 months. My daughter rescued her lab when he was about a year.  He had pretty much lived in his crate - only getting out to go potty.  He had very weak muscles and it took quite a while of increased walks to build them up.  All is great now and he is a wonderful pet.
