Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
I posted recently about our ten week old puppy, Indiana, and the extreme trials and tribulations of having her around. :)
I have been asked for updates by numerous forum members, so that's exactly what this is!
First of all, I should mention that when I posted my first discussion, I had just gotten off the phone with the vet, who was extremely unhelpful. I explained the situations to them, and they said (after telling me to call with any questions I had) "well, sorry, we can't really help you. The vet isn't available to talk to you unless it's an emergency and it sounds like you just need to be better at managing your puppy and give her more chew toys, give her more treats, and make sure you don't let her outside, because of Parvo." -- a comment that really made me angry, among other things (we have since left that vet) -- my point is: the incredible number of comments and notes of support I got from this forum saved me! The sheer number of people who responded was overwhelming. The support I was sent was exactly what I needed and it was so surprising to see my inbox filling up with people giving advice, or encouragement - THANK YOU SO MUCH to everyone who took the time to send me any sort of note or comment! I went from feeling completely frustrated, exasperated, and overwhelmed to calm and collected, plan in hand.
So now, to Indi! Who will be 3 months old on Friday, and growing like mad. Her biting has gotten much, much better. She is no longer biting as hard, and if we yelp like a small puppy would, she stops immediately and looks at us with a cocked head. She is no longer aggressive when we interrupt her doing something she has her heart set on, and she has become much nicer to our year old Terrier. She doesn't charge us anymore, and no longer screams like a banshee when removed from something dangerous.
Her personality seems to be coming out more and more, and although she is still rather feisty, most of the serious problems seem to be gone. There are glimmerings of a peaceful dog in there somewhere, I just know it.... ha.
While she is pretty aggressive when playing with our other dog, we took her to her first puppy class and she ran from playing with the bigger puppies to the little tiny dog group, tail between her legs, LOL. Seems she isn't much for jumping all over other dogs unless she knows them.
She has been totally weaned off puppy pads, and also sleeps soundly through the night now. Big deal. (!) Such a good thing, haha! We pull her water at 7pm every evening, she goes to bed at 10, and sleeps soundly until 7am.
We are totally looking forward to her having her third round of vaccinations so she can go out and about and romp around with other dogs. In the meantime we are keeping her busy with our other dog and lots and lots of play time.
A huge Thanks again to everyone who lent me a hand and responded, I can't tell you how much I appreciate it.
