upset with my vet

Some of you may remember my Trifexis topic last week.

I went to order it online because my vet charges $28.00 per month for it and I can get it online for $17.00 a month.  I put the order in and then my vet turned down giving the script.... reason was because Cocoa is a puppy they can not know what her weight is to make sure she is given the proper dosage.

Then they tried to tell me until she is full grown I have to bring her in once a month for weight checks to make sure she is on the right dose.  I am sorry but I am not going to bring her in every month to have her weight checked I know she is not going to get over 40 pounds anytime soon if ever.

Cocoa is 5 months old and 20 pounds... the dose they have her in is 20-40 pounds. She is only supposed to be 30-35 pounds and the vet even agreed.  So why is it a problem?

I think I am going to start calling other vets to price check. Only reason I use this vet is because they are 3 minutes away and my other dog got very car sick and I hated to take him to a vet farther away because I ether got vomited on or had to put him in a cage where he vomited all over himself.

We took her in for ear infection & rabies shot last week and it was a $170 charge... to me that is just crazy.

HMMMM. I think I would look for another vet. There is a vet close to me that I don't even patronize and I have even gone in and asked to use their scale and it has never been a problem and of course no charge.

Some times it is just a money grab.

it would be no charge for the scales its just a pain in the butt to have to take the time to go in once a month and weigh the dog rather than a couple months at a time when she is not going to gain weight that fast.

They never said anything about having to do a monthly weight check until I tried to get these online.

I think its time I find a new vet but not sure how to go about looking.

I agree Lindsey. Did you ask him to price match? My vet never sent a script either and that time he was willing to price match. I would LOVE to move on to another vet-DH not so much!

I would be mad too! monthly weigh ins is way over the top. They just dont like to loose business in my opinion

Whoa, that's a lot for Trifexis.  Bailey is on the dose for 50lbs and it is only 21.00.  I just got some the other day from my vet.  Also, weight checks monthly...crazy.  If you ever go to Petsmart with her, ask to use their scale.  They usually have one if they have a Banfield. 

 

I would definately call around and seek out another vet.  Sometimes convenience is not the best...

I think I am going to start looking around.  Thing is I don't know the reputation of any of the other vets around here.  But I know this one seems money hungry.

$300.00 for her spay was what I was quoted... does that seem high too?

Our vet said the cost of the spay depended on the weight? Weird. Our GoldenDoodle cost about $250· I called two other places and they went up to 325. Call around to check prices and then ask everyone where they go & then all them too!  lol

I payed a little more than that for both of my girls for getting spayed, so that is about right.  However the monthly weight checks seem over the top, especially since you don't anticipate her getting over the upper limit of the dosage you are on.  I use the scales at the Benfield in my petsmart, too, even though they are not the vet I use, so thats always an option.  I'm on the hunt for a new vet, too.  Ours recently did a huge remodel to add a rehab facility and a boarding facility, both of which are great, but my last vet bill was nearly double what the previous bill was for the exact same things.  And I really liked her, too...

New vet. You and me both. My clinic is great, but the amount of money they charge for tests and services is out of this world. It drives me nuts. We both need a new vet and not just for the $ but for the sake of our sanity.
