Some of you may remember my Trifexis topic last week.

I went to order it online because my vet charges $28.00 per month for it and I can get it online for $17.00 a month.  I put the order in and then my vet turned down giving the script.... reason was because Cocoa is a puppy they can not know what her weight is to make sure she is given the proper dosage.

Then they tried to tell me until she is full grown I have to bring her in once a month for weight checks to make sure she is on the right dose.  I am sorry but I am not going to bring her in every month to have her weight checked I know she is not going to get over 40 pounds anytime soon if ever.

Cocoa is 5 months old and 20 pounds... the dose they have her in is 20-40 pounds. She is only supposed to be 30-35 pounds and the vet even agreed.  So why is it a problem?

I think I am going to start calling other vets to price check. Only reason I use this vet is because they are 3 minutes away and my other dog got very car sick and I hated to take him to a vet farther away because I ether got vomited on or had to put him in a cage where he vomited all over himself.

We took her in for ear infection & rabies shot last week and it was a $170 charge... to me that is just crazy.

I would be looking for another vet also, it sounds like your vet is trying to make it inconvenient for you so that you will get the Trifexis through them for more $$$.

I think I would be looking for a new vet too.  I tried once to order my pet meds online because it was cheaper.  My vet's office called me after the online company called them to verify the prescription.  They told me they would verify the prescription or match the price that I could get it online.  I did get it from the local vet after they matched the lower price.

Monthly weight checks seems a little over the top.

I could only get Quincy's preventatives on a monthly basis until he was a year old. I would just pop in and weigh him and get his pill for the month. I actually didn't mind because I liked seeing how his weight was doing.

Mine said until she is one year... but in my head I am thinking what will the reason be then why they wont give the script?

Or why cant they sell me 3 months at a time.  This dog is not going to gain more than 20 pounds in 3 months... probably not even 6 months.

I was also told its really not the same drug that's why its so cheap?

it was the same with me for Cubbie.  when he was a puppy, I had to go in every few months to make sure that he was still in the smaller dosage size.  Once he gained enough to move up to the next dosage level, they were fine with giving me 6 months worth of the product.

Daisy DH and I went through 4 Vets before we found one to all 3 of our likings...we ordered our Heartguard and Frontline+ through 1-800 PetMeds and our Vet didn't blink an eye since Daisy had her test first....that is all your Vet should be concerned with. I am pretty sure we are capable enough to know the proper dosage.

NEW  Vet!

My daughter always asks her vet if they will match the price of PetMeds and so far they have.  It is worth a try. I am buying all flea, tick, and heartworm meds from my vet one month at a time right now so I can watch for reactions.  I learned my lesson after Bailey had a horrible reaction to Certifect.  I don't want to be stuck with a bunch of medicine I won't use again.  I found a vet about 2 minutes from my house.  She is great and her office is in a building  behind her house.  I feel like we are going to an old fashion country doc...she is so nice and compasionate and is way less expensive than other vets I have been to through the years.  She even has a surgery suite in the building.  Even though she is very popular around here I have not had trouble getting in to see her quickly. I feel fortunate!

My vet told me that he wouldn't give me the Rx, he would meet the price, but he claims that some of these meds that u can get online ar enot made here in the US. and he says he feels better knowing where his meds come from.  Is this true?  I don't know, but since he met the price for me, I am ok with it....

I'd be upset too!  There is no reason she can't stay on that dose, particularly with her current & expected weight.  I am getting ready to order some online too, but I have been doing the same thing...I have been taking Bexter (and now Maggie) in for weight checks every stinking month and paying a fortune to buy the med every month.  I sure hope I can order online & make it cheaper!  My doods were BOTH just upped to the next dose based on weight, so hopefully I'm good there.  Good luck.  I do think the prices are ridiculous!
