Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
We have a Nephew that is currently Deployed to Afghanistan. While they are gone the FRG (Spouses Support Group) is doing a little support from Home. They are logging miles walked while the Troops are gone and are trying to get as many miles walked as it is to Kuwait and Afghanistan which is where the Troops deployed to. Over 14,000 miles are needed before they return at the end of the year. If anyone here is interested in participating I was thinking we could have a DoodleKisses Group. You would just need to turn in your miles (weekly or monthly) to an e-mail address that I will post and then you would just tell them you are a part of the DoodleKisses Group. Here is how it works:
1) Anyone is eligible to participate. It doesn't have to be family or friend of the troops. Just those who wish to support them while they are deployed.
2) Your Doodles miles count as well. So you go for a one mile walk with your doodle, that is 2 miles to be turned in. Walk two doodles it is 3 miles.
3) Running counts as well
4) Gym workouts count to: 30 min fitness class or work out is 1 mile
So, if it looks like enough people are interested I'll contact them to set up a group for us, then I'll post the e-mail. If it doesn't look like there is enough interest, then I can always get the e-mail to those who want to just participate on their own.
There is a FB page if you want to check it out: Run/Walk to Kuwait & Afghanistan.
Let me know what you think. We can get healthy, spend time with our Doodles, and Support Our Troops all at the same time.
UPDATED: May 19th
Looks like we have some interest so I have notified them that we are setting up a little group to support the Troops. All you have to do is log your miles each week and then send an e-mail to:
3rdESCwalk@gmail.com in the subject line just put "DoodleKisses For the Troops" so they will know you are a part of our group. If you are on FB and you want you can add a picture of you and your doodle(s) or just your doodles and let them know you are supporting them.

Sheri, is there any way to know how many miles have been reported by DK members so far?
Karen -- I can send her a message to see if she is tracking by group. I think she is, I'm just not positive.
It's not important, but it would be fun to know. :)
Karen -- she said that the only two that she knows of for sure that are turning in miles are you and Lori! Unless they marked for the group she wouldn't know for sure.
Got an e-mail from the coordinator this morning and as of the end of May (although not everyone has turned in their May miles yet) they have a total of 7997 miles turned in. They are shooting for at least 14,077 miles which is the total miles to Kuwait and Afghanistan which is what the Soldiers will be traveling. Thank you to those who are walking and taking the time to turn in your miles.
On a sad note, we received word this week that our Nephews West Point room mate and his best man at his wedding was killed in Afghanistan on Monday of last week. He was from Pennsylvania, not far from Laurie. He was a very bright young man, graduating 6th in their West Point Class. He just got married last June at West Point which sadly means that he will have been married and buried at West Point in less than a year.
What a terrible tragedy. JD and I will be walking in his memory.
So sad. HIs poor family.
I just realized that I have not been counting JD's miles, just my own.
You can send them all in with your next e-mail. Thank you again for supporting Adam's deployment!
It's our privilege. :)
