This past week my son puppy sat a 5 month old cockapoo. Bodi (age 8) was not amused!! They really did OK together, but Bodi has no interest in playing. The oddest thing has happened . . . Bodi stopped drinking from his water bowl! Is it because that PUPPY is drinking from it too? I will say that Bodi is picky about his water. It can't have floaties in it, it should be cold - yes he is spoiled. He really likes in straight out of the Britta filter pitcher, but would prefer it bottled. (ok - roll your eyes now!)
Bodi's water bowl is one of many glass/pyrex bowls we have. Don't tell my mother in law, but we don't keep one SEPARATE bowl for Bodi!! Hey, the dishwasher sanitizes everything! Even after I have changed the bowl when the puppy is gone, Bodi will not drink from it! He drinks from a little plastic bowl that we keep up while the puppy is here.
I am not concerned about Bodi's health because the puppy has just been here during the school day. We get up two hours before the puppy arrives and so he gets plenty to drink in the morning. My son gives him water in that plastic bowl after they have been playing and by 3:30 Bodi can have access to that stupid plastic bowl (that I kick over) all the time.
I just find it odd . . . yes, he is spoiled!

I guess Bodi doesn't get the concept of dishwasher sanitized...lol...These doods can be persnickety!
I know Hanna wont drink out of "public" water bowls....I guess I would be fond of the idea either ! ; )
Our 3 don't seem to mind anyone drinking from their bowls as they are used to sharing, but my parents dog does not like to drink after anyone. Hopefully, Bodi will drink again after he has reestablished they are his bowls!
I think maybe its a learned behavior, because both of my doodles are very picky about their water bowls as well. Each has their own and neither drinks out of the other's. The only exception to this rule is when we go to a vacation rental. They'll drink out of both bowls then (weird, huh?). We have to carry water when we go to the dog park, as they won't drink out of the 'communal bowl', either!
