Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

We truly do a disservice to this doodle breed when we say we have the perfect dogs and this is the perfect breed. I know this topic is discussed a lot but we truly need to think before we tell an inexperienced dog owner about our dogs. We need to start off with all their bad qualities, how much research we did, how training is for life and so on. Instead a lot of people say we have the perfect dog. That may be true, you may have a dog that suits your family well but do not use the word perfect! This is why so many dogs are dumped and what has kept all those involves with DRC so busy!

Just think about this the next time someone asks about that puppy that suits your family so well!

Thanks for posting.

This really is great...years ago I met someone who said they didn't want kids because they were so much work so they wanted to get a dog & asked me which kind to get, my suggestion was to stay with us for a week and help with the kids, dogs, horses, rabbits & cat to see what was a better fit :) She only lasted 24 hours & got a cat!

Interesting coincidence that I should see this here today.  Somebody on a FB page for Bernedoodle fanciers contacted me and asked all sorts of questions about Yarrow's breeder and if all the puppies in her litter were as cute.  She wants to get her first family dog and they think they'd like a Bernedoodle.  I told her how much I love my puppy but also all the trials and tribulations that go along with a doodle - who, by the way, sheds!  I actually recommended that she come to Doodlekisses and read the conversations in Puppy Madness to start with.  I also told her that I cannot imagine Yarrow, now 6 months, being with anyone who could not spend all the time with her that I do.  She is SO energetic and busy, curious and intelligent, requiring so much time and energy.  I don't think I'll ever candy-coat the truth about raising a doodle.  As much as I adore my Yarrow, I wouldn't want to make anyone believe that having a doodle is all fun and cuddles, just to have a puppy bred, sold, and then need to be rehomed as an adolescent, or ignored as a yard dog.  A terrible thought.
