I've debated about putting this out there but we have our own thoughts about why this happens.
This picture contains the ( remains ) urn's of Bella, my husbands dog of 18 years and Pete, my dog of 14 years. They are placed together on the bookcase shelf in the living room.
Spud will just sit and bark at them. " Bark Bark Bark Bark Bark" What are your thoughts?
I wonder if there's any scent that he can pick up. Are they tightly sealed? If that's it, he is probably saying "I know you're in there...come out and play with me". If that's not it, then the spirits are talking to him.
Jane: They've never been opened. We often think about taking some of the ashes and spreading them around places they loved to play or places in the yard where they enjoy laying around, but neither of us have had that kind of day that brings us to this sentimental moment. So, they have remained on the shelf.
Sue: I never pick them up. I had to dust them just to take these pictures.
But................. Pete grew up in this house. Bella lived in my husbands house. So, DH thinks many times Spud acts similar to Pete. Spud chews the exact same things, and hangs out in the yard in the same places. He says Pete's good nature and spirit still live here.
Mind you, we are not real ' into' these kind of thoughts, but this is bizarre lately. Something is going on. Doesn't scare or bother us, but clearly something is there.
Whatever it is, we will never know, but it is interesting.
Do you think he can sense your energy and connection to the urns?
How do you act when you touch them or handle the urns?
Just a thought as they sure do pick up on our thoughts and feelings easily I've found.
Although I find the answers here very interesting, I'm going to be far less interesting and ask whether or not Spud spends regular time at a doggie daycare or groomer, etc. where they might keep treats in canisters such as these? Nugget's dry treats are kept in a canister on our kitchen counter and she "knows" the type of canister. When she visits at my parents house, she barks at a similar canister on their counter which holds teabags, not treats. (Although my dad (one of Nugget's biggest fans) has started storing treats in a Ziploc inside this tea canister! :-)
We make home-cooked treats. They are kept in a ZipLock Baggie in the refrigerator. His toys are kept in the freezer--NO JOKE. He is socialized but at dog parks only. We visit the neighbors and she keeps hers in a baggie also.
Spud has one of those pukey stomachs so I monitor his treats. Never a canister. But good idea.
Do you ever watch "Haunted" on Animal Planet? Some of the "spirits" are animals! and some thought to be humans. The live" dogs and cats in the home react immensly in many cases when the humans don't see anything. The parnormal. Not sure if I believe in this but if you watch the many series that are on, it is very convincing.
