What do you use to clean your doodle's tear stains?

I've been using a tear-free shampoo to cleanse the area every day and then follow with something the vet gave me.   It's called Vet Classic tear stain remover.  While Toby doesn't have the gunk, he does have the staining still.

Any suggestions?

i pit a teeny tiny bit of apple cider vinegar in my pets food, it reduces coopers eye crusties and goop, and keeps the tear stains away from my brilliant white lynx siames

Some people will say apple cider vinegar is hookum but it seems to work for my lot

We were told filtered water....we have Lexi, pure white, on filtered water for a year now and the stains are gone. I guess it works and it is an easy solution. She still gets eye buggers but they are no problem.

Do you mean she drinks filtered water?  Or you use it to clean her tear stains?

I've heard to give them filtered or bottled water to drink to get rid of tear stains. I suppose it would depend on what's in your tap water???? I'm very interested too now that my new puppy is light and shows some sign of tear staining. My Black doodle has the issue...or that we can see!

I've also heard hydrogen peroxide to clean the eye area may work.

Both Lexi and Billy drink filtered tap water at home.  When we are out we try to give them bottled water but that is not always possible so the do drink some tap as well.

This product has an antibiotic in it. I would caution against giving an antibiotic for what is after all a cosmetic problem. Te staining is often caused by a certain fungus. Keep the hair short near the tear ducts and clean as needed around there.
