I have always wondered how important it is for people to make our dogs smell pretty, or use the doggie colognes?

I went to a wholesale dog supply place recently and there were rows and rows of every scent imaginable in shampoo's, conditioners, spray on deodorizers, fresheners, scents, colognes, you name it. There must be a market for it but I don't believe we ever really discussed it here.

Is anyone using these? Does it interfere with their natural doggie scents and how other dogs percieve them? I know my puppy and daughters doodle are very attracted to my Vanilla Victoria's Secret lotion and try to lick it off my legs, so I wonder how scents on other dogs would attract them.  Just a random thought....

Jordan will lick off any lotion. I think she like the balm in them. She also hunts for chap-stick.She chews up the plastic and eats the yummy balm.(She leaves the plastic in a nice little pile for me)
I once found this soap that was cedar scented it was just a hint. I wish I could find that again.Jordan smelled so good after her bath.
I have to say I prefer a dog that smells freshly washed (any aroma of shampoo) to one that hasn't been washed in a while, but slightly on a tangent...ROSCO LOVES CLARK fresh out of the shower. Oh my. I don't know if it's aftershave or deodorant or his cologne, but Rosco rubs up against him like a CAT and gets all frisky!
Do you think other dogs notice these smells to and that it "says" something about them....like a prissy dog if they smell like vanilla, or a manly dog if they smell like "Old Spice"???
Maybe to Rosco it does...LOL. HE also likes Clark's stinky slippers and shoes when he takes them off. Remember this:
OMG!!! He just can't get enough of those stinky slippers can he? You two (or three) are so funny
Too funny!
I think it is pretty clear that Roscoe just loves Clark p.e.r.i.o.d.
LOL!!! I cant help but to think how dogs love to roll on dead stinky things!!!
It's weird when people put perfume on their dogs....my mom used to do it when her old old old (19 years old) was between grooms - YUCKY! Snow didn't smell good but perfume and old dog does not mix.

One of the things I like about our Doodle is she really does not smell unless she steps in something, swims in the lake or rolls in goose, rabbit, duck or anything wild poo. It amazes DH....our daughter's dogs smell like dogs if you know what I mean.
PHEW! I can just imagine perfume and old dog smells. You're right though, I never have met a smelly doodle and I have hugged a lot of them!
I LOVE the way my Doodles smell. It's sort of unique....I just can't put my finger on it. It's a little like a "dog smell" but better. When I'm feeling "down" I go and smell them. Actually, I get the best "high" from Murph, probably because he's bigger so there's more of a smell. But the advantage with Guinness is that I can just pick him up and walk around smelling him which is also very nice. In any event, I'm pretty much addicted to that Dood smell.
I do that too. I just bury my nose in his neck and take him in. I can still pick up the puppy and smell her, mostly because I want to get as much "puppy breath" sniffs as I can because she will probably be my last one in my lifetime.
