What is it that makes them "forget" they are potty trained when another dog is in the house????

My 6 month old, who rarely has accidents had a little doggie friend over last night and peed 2 x's and pooped once on my freshly (as in still wet) steam cleaned white carpet!!!!.. What is that all about? Once he did right in front of my friend, when we were all upstairs and once he went off on his own to do it AGAIN!!!!
Is he marking his territory? (He;'s fixed). Is he THAT excited he "forgot?" Granted he drank a lot of water and was so excited playing, as doodles can be.....but why on freshly cleaned carpets? I fortunatly still had the machine loaded and ready to finish another area, so it was no big deal. Anyone else ever see this?

My doodle is turning a year old this week, and she will still pee if she is really excited and has a full bladder. I have made it a habit to take my dog out 5 minutes before I have company (I make them call when they are 5 minutes away). This helps a ton. She will grow out of it eventually probably once she calms down, but I don't know about the pooping in the house, that is a bit of a different story I would think.
I am actually not sure it was my dogs poop since he is getting homecooked foods and there is usually some "evidence" of what he had for dinner, and this little surprise was not normal for him. Didn;t want my friend to feel bad, so just said, "Oh Look what Murphy did!!!" But the pee he has done before. Thanks for the suggestion tho. Will make it a habit to take him out before, during and after ASAP.
I found that my old dog Bailey never ever had accidents after he was finally housebroken but would, much to my embarrassment) pee in other peoples houses, or if someone elses dog was in our house. I think it is somehow territory/marking related. But he was neutered as a pup. I really dont know why. I found my only solution is to keep him right with me if I was somewhere else to avoid the mortification.
That was the lesson I probably should learn from this!!! Mine was neutered as a pup too, so go figure. I think our doodles just get so excited that they can't control themselves sometimes.....wonder if he pee's in the pool????
I have wondered about the dogs going in the pool....I do not like the thought.
That seem's to be the case with Murphy too. He did go poop once when visiting my sister-in-law. Went into her very large living room, alone and did the deed. And we just moved into this house about 2 weeks ago and it;s considerably larger than the RV he has been in with us for 4 months. Just the excitement of having a friend over and being alone upstairs for a few minutes was just too much for him.
Lesson learned. I too will close the bedroom door for now.
