Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

We're getting a girl labradoodle in a month. Her dad is a 40lb poodle- mom is a 54lb labradoodle

We purchased a crate for 70-90lbs initially, I'm wondering if we should down grade to the 40-70 lb crate? Lifestages crate by Midwest. They have the puppy divider in them..

Suggestions?
Thanks!!

If it were me, I would keep the size you have ( ordered). It has a divider, which will come handy, early on.

IMO, it can't hurt to have more crate than you need...I always just follow the old adage "it's better to have and not need than to need and not have". From my experience with Ragley, weight in doodles doesn't always tell the whole picture. She is very tall and lanky- so for her, the extra height of the 42" (71-90 lb) crate is worth it.

I would keep the larger one for when she is older, doodles can be unpredictable in size! I'd rather have the slightly larger one than one that is a little small.  Just remember to keep the divider up while she is a little one to discourage accidents! :)

I have a 36" crate because that is what I already had from when my Rosey was a puppy. Cally is 5 months and is going to need the 42" I think. Her mom was 42 pounds and her dad was 56 pound and she is a standard. She is suppose to be 55 pounds but it looks like she is going to be very tall. I would definitely keep the one you have, it will be worth it not to have to get the next size up if you ever need a bigger one.

You are all awesome! I kept the larger crate! We'll have to find a good spot! Thanks again!
I'm pretty sure you've made the correct decision! Doubtful, you will be sorry.

As much as I hate all the room our oversize crate takes (it was a leftover from a much larger Lab), he can stretch and move around.  As has been suggested, just make sure you use the divider until he is well potty trained.
