What time does everyone stop food/water??

Scarlet is just a pup and not even home for a week yet. The past few nights she has been getting up every 1 1/2 hrs or so and usually goes pee and poo both. Yesterday I stopped all food and water around 6 pm and she still went pee almost every hour or so during the night??? I usually try to go to bed around 11 ?? Please advise what has worked for you and your pup. I'm really tired :)  She has been eating about 6 am, noon, and 6 pm. She has a small bowl of water with each meal and I don't give her anymore after she finishes that. Would love some help!!

Yes Joanne, no fluids could be an issue if she is so runny, I agree. Wait till after vet visit and you get a handle on the diarrhea first. I do think you can put several stool samples in one container, you just want as fresh as possible. ( to answer your question on the other post)

Potty Training and Crate Training are unfortunately on hold with pups sick like this. She may not Act sick, but it is pretty hard to potty train a puppy with poo issues and most certainly very upset tummy. No, don't give up, but expect nothing

Joanne is absolutely right. I never took up the water for my dogs. Now I'll take it up for a while after I put on their tooth gel but that is very late at night. Puppies need water and putting out a lot of fluids in stool makes it more vital.

I think this topic bothers me than most. Dogs need water. Lots of water. Pulling water to enable the human to sleep.. well, I think understand where others are coming from, but I just do not agree.
And, Spud, stays awake if he can not get to water. He gets up for a drink every night between the hours of 2-4 am. This calms his very dry mouth and he goes right back to sleep.
Since dogs require so much water, does anyone wonder if puppies cry in crates because they may be thirsty? :)

My vet said, " not too bright of an idea when I ran this by him"

Again, I understand this is for convenience, but I just do not agree with pulling fluids from tiny babies.  Just two weeks ago, she was fed on demand.

I think this is one reason that an all-kibble diet is not so great. Moist foods have a lot of water in them. Canned, homemade, raw. Dogs that eat diets with a higher water content don't seem to need to drink as much water.

I've never taken up water for any dog, puppy or adult, the bowl is always there in the kitchen with fresh water, but I did crate puppies at night for the first couple of months until they were housebroken, and there was no water bowl in the crate.

But most dogs will drink what they need if they have access to water so for them I don't see it as a problem it's limiting the water that is a problem.

The last time I had a puppy, she was crated at night without water, from 11 to 6, and she never cried once, not a peep. Of course, she was 9 weeks old when I brought her home and her breeder had already crate trained her.

JD never gets up at night for water or anything else. None of my fosters have either, and some of them were older puppies in the 10-12 month range. The only dog that ever woke me at night was a 10 month old foster with raging giardia. I have had adult dogs that did roam the house at night, drink, etc.

Hopefully you are not hearing them drinking from the toilet. I had one that did that in the middle of the night. :)

No, I actually will have a cat who will try it but good grief she is 16 and has fallen in.  Poor girl.  She just likes to 'play' in all things water. I leave the faucet dripping for her sometimes. She is spoiled. Spud is my first dog who does not do this.

Okay, so let me share this dufus story.

I had my youngest son tested for diabetes because my Mastiff would follow  him ( only him ) into the bathroom and push himself into the stream.  I was certain, there was some reason.  If he did not flush ( boys do that sometimes) he would drink it dry
