Well, I got accepted into my Early Childhood Education Cohort program that I applied for a couple of months ago, one step closer to getting my dream job in Child Life! Being accepted into the program means, Cally and I are moving (an added bonus is that my cousin goes to this school, so we will be living together!)! I signed my lease two weeks ago and we are all set on our place to live and being ready for that but I need to find a vet! I have just been using the vet my whole family takes their animals, so I never really looked into this before.

What are some things I should look for in a new vet? If you could have certain things in a Vet, what would be things you look for.  Do you know of sites that I could search for a vet, based on certain criteria? Is it necessary to only look at AAHA accredited offices?

Thanks in advance!

Oh boy, now I feel like a lousy dog mom.  I just looked on Yelp and picked one that was close by with good reviews.  I have been happy though, but that was the extent of my research.

Do not feel like a bad mom! I'll try yelp!

The first thing I would do is ask your current vet if he has any recommendations for the town where you are moving.  If he does, you could begin your search by checking them out.

Great idea!
We went off of personal recommendations and couldn't be happier. We have multiple friends with pets and all of them use different vets. We had them all describe their vet to us and we picked the one most "our type". We like ours because he doesn't have any partners. It's just him. He's very straightforward and doesn't sugarcoat.

If your cousin already attends this school maybe she has friends that have pets and could talk to you about who they use and why. :)

Thank you, I will be doing that!

Congratulations. Personal recommendations from trusted people, your vet, friends who are sharp etc. are the best way to go I think. Then you can ask about the new vet's manner, philosophy etc from these people. I also look at where théy went to school etc.

Thank you! I cannot wait for Cally to be able to experience downtown. She is so good with people and their will be parks closer and it is all right outside our door. I think she will love it! I also will not have long hours like I do now, so I think she will also enjoy that. I know a lot of the vets at my current office are OSU grads. What schools should I look at? I have come to realize, I am not really a fan of guy vets and that may just be because the ones at my currents vet office are very arrogant and act like you are wasting their time.

Well, probably the best schools are Cornell, Tufts etc. But I am a bit snobbish in that American schools are better than foreign for US citizens. That said my own vet went to a foreign school. Vet schools were hard to get into years ago and probably even now. The one year farm experience, since dropped, keep me from applying : )

Lol, thanks I will keep a look out for those schools! If that kept you from applying then I do not suggest you ever watch The Incredible Dr. Pol. :)

Oh, I love Dr. Pol but I have a big backlog of recorded shows just now. It kept me from applying because I lived in Manhattan and there was no way I could see to do it. IT's OK, I went to med school. Given that I am allergic to cats maybe it was all for the best : )

I love that show as well. It probably was for the best. :)
