Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Hi everyone. I rescued Winston about a year ago, and we were told he was either a goldendoodle or a labradoodle. Is it possible to tell what type of doodle he is by looking at his physical appearance? What type of doodle do you think he is? Is he even a doodle (some people think he is a wheaten terrier)?
Here's some information that may help:
1. He is ultra cream with apricot parti spots.
2. His fur is a mixture of straight, wavy, and curly.
3. He sheds a little.
4. He gets strong body odor within a week of being bathed.
5. He is 40 pounds, full grown.
6. He has a stocky, square appearance, with a flat and wide head.
7. He has dark brown eyes (with crazy long apricot lashes) and a rose colored nose.
8. He is a goof ball and loves to snuggle with cats.
After looking online at hundreds of pictures, I feel that he could either be an Australian Labradoodle or a English-type Goldendoodle, based on the stockiness of his body.
I've attached a few photos, which you can also find in my photo gallery in my profile. Thank you!

Diana, can you try embedding the photos in your discussion?
Not sure how to do that...Did you see the photos?
There's a tutorial in the Help section, but basically, all you do is click the little photo icon and upload the photo. You can always edit your discussion and try it. It makes it much easier if they are right there in the disucssion for everyone to see, rather than having to click a link and go back and forth.
I would personally rule out Wheaten if he sheds at all, because Wheatens don't, so unless it was Wheaten mixed with a shedding breed, you wouldn't have any shedding, and there's too much wave in his coat for there not to be some poodle in there.
His legs look short for a doodle. How tall is he? And what kind of tail does he have?
I think it's the angle of that picture. His legs aren't as short as it looks in the photos, but he's definitely stockier. His tail fur is straighter than the rest of his body...it tends to look like other doodle tails I've seen, but the fur is a bit straighter. Thanks!
But what kind of tail? Not the fur, the tail itself. Is it long? Is it straight, carried low, or is it carried high? Does it curl? These things can help identify breeds.
Its unlikely you would get an Australian labradoodle from a rescue, purely because of the money they cost to buy from a breeder!
Cute dog whatever he is!
Jane's Murphy is an ALD from a "reputable" breeder and he was relinquished to the DRC. So was Jacquie's Bella. In fact Bella is from Rutland Manor itself, imported from Oz by the original owner. We've placed quite a few ALDs (with papers) over the years.
My Ollie is an ALD and I adopted him as a rehome from DRC last summer.
Yep, another ALD from a "reputable" breeder.
The breeders are always contacted and they are always happy to have us rehome the dog rather than having the dog returned to them.
