Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of my goldendoodle. He'll be six weeks old tomorrow!
Attached is a picture of him last week - at 5 weeks of age.
His coat is flat and the breeder said he will resemble more of a golden retriever than a poodle. However, he is 75% poodle and 25% golden retriever, so I'm not entirely convinced that he'll have a straight coat. His parents are 14lbs (dad: miniature poodle) and 17lbs (mom: mini goldendoodle). I'm thinking he'll have a wavy coat. He is red, but poodle mixes definitely lighten with age. My maltipoo was a light apricot when he first arrived, but now at 7 months old, he's a white/cream.

Does anyone have a dog who looked similar to mine at this age?

Also, I'm trying to decide between these names: Cooper, Wyatt, Rupert, Wellington and Newton. His brother (my 7 month old maltipoo) is named Sherlock.

My golden is also a F1b and his coat was smooth when he was a puppy. His color is very different from your puppy, but it got curlier and curlier as he matured. Take a look at my page to see what he looks like now. I think your puppy will be wavy coated also, but he may end up a curly-coated pup.
He's awfully young to make a solid decision about coat. To me it doesn't look too flat or short...so there may be potential there! But even an F1b can look like a retriever, depending on how the genes fall. It's only 75% poodle statistically...but individuals can occasionally look like very little poodle.
SOOoooo cute!!!
Your doodle seems to be close to Halas in color, but it looks like Halas' coat was a tiny bit wavier at 5 or 6 weeks old. What about the name Watson to go with Sherlock?

Here's Halas at 6 weeks old. I have a 5 week picture, but not on this computer.

He's not quite 15 months old now, and you can see a lot of pictures on our page. The 2 pictures on our page with Dog Park in the title are from earlier this month (on the day he turned 14 months old.
I agree with you that it's fun to watch them grow and change. When I first got Halas, everyone said what a cute puppy he was. Someone would always say, "All puppies are cute, but they aren't puppies for long." I really enjoyed most of Halas' time as a puppy, but one of the things that excited me about Halas was the chance to watch him grow up and see what kind of grown up dog he would turn out to be. Not just how he would look, but what his personality would be like, how smart he would be, whether or not we would do therapy work, etc., etc. Of course, I tried to guess what he might look like when I was picking him out, and it is really fun to do that, but even if you think you can tell, you're still in for a surprise. There are so many stages to the coat. It isn't like their look goes from point A to point B. It's more like point A to point Z, and it is not a straight line. And they are just completely adorable the whole time, even if they have a goofy look stage.
Very cute, but as I'm sure you have noticed doodles look so different!! No matter what - it will be a cutie!!

Hi, My Kodie girl is 75% poodle and 25% Lab....but, she looks more Lab. to me....she is 10 1/2 months now and I love her coat!
I love the suggestion of Watson! Or Holmes, of course--but Watson is cuter. My doodle has completely changed since puppyhood as well. How breeders can tell what the coat will look like in a year's time is beyond me--there must be a pattern, but only an experienced person could figure it out. The pup is adorable!
I like Newton....or Rupert is cute also!
Cute!
