My wonderful 5 1/2 month old doodle, Charlie, doesn't bark. He occasionally makes a funny noise but it's not a proper bark! Is he very quiet or is he just too young?!

ps what on earth are zoomers?!

Mindy RARELY barks, so when she does we pay attention. Her quietness is just one of the many traits we ADORE about her!
Gaston-Cramer is the exact same way! IF he barks we know for certain it's purpose-filled. He won't even join in when the others get going. Knock wood that this keeps up!
Samantha rarely zoomies - but if the weather hasn't allowed us to get to the dog park for days, she will decide instead of the bedtime pee being a 'quick let's go inside', she will decide to raise her tush and then all of a sudden take off for parts unknown - but when she does, I just LOFLMAO!
DH and I said on numerous occaisions that Samantha didn't bark at all. Then she 'matured' and realized that squirrels and chipmunks run when she barks. Ohhh, what a thrill! Then she found her reflection in the glass doors - again, what a thrill. Then it was the leaves, then the rare plane overhead, then the kids walking to past the house to school. Now, anything that passes her house when she didn't invite them. We are working hard to get that under control.
It is very interesting that she is learning to give us different barks - she is now giving us a 'special' bark to let us know when she wants to go out or come back in. That is what it is all about!! Growing up and being responsible Doodle Citizens
Lucy started a little bark at about 6 months. Now she's 9 mo and has found her voice. She's not one to bark a lot, just when she wants to play with kids who are too far. She never barks to go out- only in. She rings a bell at the back door to go out.
Oski rarely barks & usually only for certain reasons:
1. He's scared & is warning you off (he tends to do this a lot at night because I don't think he can see that well, when the person comes close enough for him to see it's a person then he wants them to pet him!)
2. He wants to play
3. He's angry (ie the same dog at the park has been humping him or picking on him & he's giving his warning before he pins the other dog & barks loudly in his face).

I've gotten to the point where I can tell which bark it is by sound alone regardless of context, LOL. I think he started barking at around 4 months? Even as a little puppy he always had a deep big dog bark :)
OMG! How lucky are you! Our Bella is a B-A-R-K-E-R and started out at about 4 months and hasn't stopped. We live in the country with very little traffic on our lane. When a car/truck/van turn on the lane she starts barking. Also barks at cats, birds, squirrels, and maybe even at the air movement. Now Rozee isn't a barker and only starts in once Bella gets going. Count your blessings and enjoy the quiet!
I think Dex started barking around 10 months...but then after we got Kirby it got worse. He has learned how to bark to get Kirby to play with him so we work a lot on the "hush" command (only limited success)...

Charlie may never bark - if so you're lucky :)
