When was your doodle's first trim/clip? When does adult fur start coming in?

Bob's hair is starting to get a little mangy looking but I'm definitely not ready to cut it. It's not really curling - there are just random patches of hair sticking straight out. It's pretty funny (looking) actually. He has very curly hair on his ears and he's only 3 months, so I'm sure his coat will look different a few months from now.

Just curious - at what age did your doodle have it's first cut? When did you start noticing a difference between puppy hair and adult hair?

I just had our sixteen week old get her first puppy cut yesterday. Is once we've had her I have done her sanitary area, nails and lots of brushing. My eleven month old got his first REAL cut at six month when his coat was starting to change.
I have groomed both of mine pretty young. By 2-3 months at least. They both had that flyaway-sticking up all over wispy puppy hair that looked so unkept. Since they were going to lose it anyway, I scissor cut then to get rid of that first wispy layer and they they got there first clipper haircuts about 5 months. I never noticed any coat change at any one certain age as it seems to evolve gradually as I trimmed them. Murphy didn't change at all and hardly sheds. Bella got thicker and wavier as she got into the end of her first year, but that was all the change I ever noticed. There is a great grooming site if you are even thinking of doing anything yourself. It's a great bonding and training time with your pup and you always get the look you want, (well, pretty much till you get better at it, lol) I have probably about $200 invested in equipment and have saved at least $1200.00 in grooming fees and lots of frustration! You will often read about someone bringing their dog to the groomer, only to find them shaved down to the skin, with razor burns, ear infections from the bath, hours of them being caged while they wait, and such. Not to mention the unfortunate tail being broken at a groomer (suspected, never proven).
