Where do you get the best deal, consistently, on Frontline Plus? I've always gotten it via Dr. Foster's and Smith and need to stock up again but haven't really shopped around.

Nate, there have been numerous posts where the mark-off, or store bought products have not worked.
Go to the vet, get the real thing, keep your dog safe, and pay an extra buck a month to not have to deal with this product not working.
Was 'this is not working' issue always and only when it was not purchased from a vet or is this not clear from what you've read?
I haven't purchased Frontline Plus from the vet ever. Always from Dr. Foster and Smith or another dog supply store online. Initially because it didnt even dawn on me to buy from my vet and too many catalogs in the mail for dog stuff so I just assumed most people bought it there AND I like to shop online rather than drive to a store.
Am I correct in understanding that it is only the Heartworm meds that must be purchased from a vet but that Frontline Plus is okay coming from reputable online stores?
You can get heartworm meds not from the vet, I would STRONGLY advise against it. Even if the source is reputable, Merial only insures HeatGard if purchased through a vet. So if the REAL product fails, spending the extra $5/year from the vet buys you an insurance policy against deworming or other treatments.
I PERSONALLY believe that buying from a reputable store is fine for FrontLine. I'm not sure if many of the dog supply stores online - and in real life - are truly reputable. I'm confident that the supply chain for the big-box retailers like Amazon, Target and WalMart are uncompromised.
From all the stories I've read in multiple dog owner forums, the people who had issues with Frontline either:
1. Bought a knockoff (the patent on the main ingredient in FrontLine expired, so you can get "PetArmor" for half the price at some retailers. it only has half the ingredients though, so allegedly doesn't work on eggs and isn't waterproof )
2. Bought a seemingly real box from an online pet store, and started a whole big mess about how "the vet was right , and all these stores are scams". And when I looked at the online pet store , I personally wouldn't have trusted them with my credit card info to buy a toy -- much less medicine for my family.
3. Bought the real thing, and it didn't work. That happens.
I would say so, with the emphasis being on the word "reputable".
I was unaware of any issues with purchasing at other non vet locations and have purchased Frontline Plus from Costco because I can get a 6 month supply there for what it costs for a 3 months supply at Petsmart.
I think there is more of an issue with HW meds than with the flea & tick stuff. Just make sure you are buying the name brand and not the generics or the store brands, those are made in China.
So it would be bad that if the box says "Frontline +" instead of "Frontline Plus"?
jk....I have the name brand product.
My vet sells the Advocate here 'three for two' offer and it costs €26 for three which is a really good price. Both boys are now the same weight so at the moment I'm using the same one. The reason I use it is that Lungworm is pretty prevalent here and tick born diseases not so. It's very difficult to find something that covers everything. I prefer to buy from the vet or alternatively I can take a prescription to the local chemist (they sell Vet meds too as we live near farms and studs).
I buy from my vet too nervous about what might be out there.
This discussion is perfect timing for me. I was just about to order more Frontline Plus for Alma. We have always gotten it from CanadaVet.com. The price is US$63.97 for 6 months for medium dogs and US$67.34 for large dogs. They have free shipping on orders over $88 (I usually combine her Heartgard Plus with the order) otherwise shipping is $5.95.
What is the price at Costco? Does anyone know?
