On 9/11 as I was leaving the hairdresser's a lady was walking in saying that a plane had hit the World Trade Center - I thought it was some kind of accident but when I turned on the radio I heard that we, America, was being attacked.  I felt like the air had disappeared - I could barely breath, my hands started to shake.  I had been heading into my real estate office but I turned around and drove a few miles away to the nearest T.V. - at my dad's house.  By the time I walked in the second plane had already crashed into the other tower.  The scenes on the TV were horrific - I was scared for our country and I was angry at those that could do such a thing.  Shocking to watch as they played the videos over and over.  People jumping from the towers was the worst part - I fell to my knees sobbing.  The Pentagon, the airplane over PA - it just kept getting worse.  As the first building collapsed - I could only pray to God.  All those people, their families - unimaginable.  As the days went by there were hero's emerging from the tragedy, some goodness in the face of all that evil.  10 years later the thing I mourn the most is the loss of innocence, the loss of trust in people, the lost of a sense of security that I will never have again in my lifetime.  I travel frequently and I'm reminded every time I go through the airport.   I stood last week at the World Trade Center site - along with machine gun toting police.

Laurie - I agree!!

It is bitter sweet for me.

I ran into an old friend around noon that day.  Someone I had not seen in five years.  Someone so special.  Life is too short.  Too short to waste any more time.  We married six years later.

I heard that song coming back from church, Jane!  I loved it too!

Really goes well with this discussion!

I have really enjoyed reading all these stories, even though I am in tears.  THis morning I came into the office and a co-worker said " I cried all weekend".  She worked for a real estate firm that had just signed a lease to relocate to the 80th floor of Tower 1.  They had not moved yet.

It was a rough day yesterday - I spent 2 hours watching the Today Show Coverage from 10 years ago.  Why?  I was so upset.  But then I watched the coverage of the memorials and speakers and families being interviewd and I felt so uplifted for some reason.

Anyway, thanks to all for sharing.  Some amazing stories.  I said prayers all weekend for the entire country, especially those affected directly by 911.

My husband was on a different plane that had left Boston and was due to land in New York at the same time that the first plane crashed into the first tower.  I couldn't find his itinerary, which would have told me that he was on another airline.  Then, the second plane crashed.  Franticly, I kept hitting redial on my phone -- heart pounding the whole time -- until he finally picked up.  He was taxiing into the gate when I ultimately reached him.  I'll never forget those very very very long few minutes.
