Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Thanks everyone who joined Adina & I for the live dog training webinar!  A very special thanks to our trainer Doggy Dan for sharing so much good stuff.  Adina is off to put the kids to bed so I'll wrap this up.

What did you think?

Again, thank you!  We know it's not easy to free up an evening on a holiday weekend.  :-)

We're sorry we couldn't address every question you guys asked in chat.  You had some great questions and we just couldn't get to them all.

What I really like about Dan since getting to know him is that NOTHING is off limits.  He doesn't hold anything back and say "You have to subscribe to my website to get that answer."  Nope.  He will give you the best answer he possibly can every time.  And tonight he laid out his method.  As you saw, he is passionate about the transformations that take place in our dogs when WE are the pack leaders.  He has shown that the basis of solving every problem is being the pack leader and the trusting relationship with our dogs that comes from that.

I thought the content was killer.  The production values?  Not so much.  But I really don't care too much that Adina and I were in our garage (really!) and Dan was in his spare bedroom.  This was about answering your questions and giving you as much value as we possibly could.  I think we did that in spades.  Could we cover everything in an hour?  Nope.

And that's why Dan's video site is so helpful.  You can try it out for $1 and watch over 250 videos on all aspects of dog training.  Dan is a full time trainer and has run across most every problem you can imagine.  The best part is he has taped his interaction with these dogs and given us the solution to solve them for ourselves.

So check out his website.  He has given DK members a $1 trial and then $10 off.  This offer is only good until Wednesday night.  Thanks Dan!

Thanks!

Joan, you might just need to find the right trainer to work with you one-to-one.  Because no trainer, no matter the type of training or philosophy, can completely solve several major dog training issues for all listeners in a mere hour.  Doggy Dan shared his philosophy on working with dogs in general as well as his ideas on several particular issues.  But in an hour nobody can do more than scrape the surface and get you thinking.

If you're having a particularly difficult time, maybe you just need a trainer to take you on walks in person to give you live guidance.  Classes don't fix problems for a lot of people because dogs get used to the class environment but the classes won't always teach you how to respond to real life situations.

excellent advice!

Googling around I see these two options for training (there wasn't much):

http://www.qcdoc.com/

http://contentedk9sdogtraining.com/wpsite/?page_id=22

Were either of those places where you have taken classes before? If not, maybe call them both and explain your struggles and see who seems to be most trustworthy/worth using.

Thanks so much for looking. We've been to Contented Canines and she did fine in class and got lots of exercise in doggy daycare but none of it solved the excited bolting out the door, pulling on leash. Odd that she was perfect on leash in class from day one. I spent a fortune there w no results plus the train or wasn't too approachable in my opinion. Anyway I'm hoping my sweet loving dog will settle down so she can get attention from everyone she will meet. Right now she's too wild to expose her to anyone and they will dislike her immediately because of her jumping and pulling. I've tried so hard to work with her but nothing helps.
I was so looking forward to having my first grandchild able to cuddle up with my gentle dog but there's no way I can ever have her near a child because of her strength and jumping. I'm sad.
Very true. Good advice. Thank you

I think the webinar really only scratched the surface....which I assume was all it was intended to do.  The real "magic" is in the videos on the website, but you must go into their viewing with an open mind and believing that armed with this information you really will make a difference....as long as you're willing to put in the work.

We really weren't trying to just scratch the surface and tease you.  Both Dan and myself were trying to give you full complete solutions to the five or six biggest issues.  But we were also trying to fit it into an hour.  Time was the limitation, not a desire to hold back some "secret sauce".

Perhaps we should have addressed fewer issues and done those more in depth.  That would have been great for some, worse for others.  If we eliminated the lesser priority topics based on our survey, we would have left off the info about pulling while on leash... but that was really valuable info to include.

Live and learn!

I signed up for $1 and watched the 5 Golden Rules.  I found some enlightening things regarding how to stop them from barking by saying "thank you" calmly and also to get them calm BEFORE putting leash on and every step along the way as they walk out the door and down stairs.  I'll try that immediately!  I found Doggy Dan's approach to be very very helpful.

The downside is that by May 30, a monthly charge of $27 will automatically be charged to accounts who signed up for the $1 session of 3 days.  I  am just going to continue to work on the calming down before walks as that is the only issue I'm having to deal with.   I cancelled my order which was a process.  I finally called the number and had the recording verify the cancellation for me.  You will need the order number if anyone needs to cancel.

I'm glad, however, I was able to hear about the 5 Golden Rules.  good luck to all.  :)

I have not had a chance to be online but will definitely watch the replay. Thank you all for your insights, I really can't wait to find some time and learn more.

Not sure whether I was supposed to reply in THIS discussion or the other one so I'm replying in both. I have signed up for the trial and am loving the website so far. It is amazing that such small changes get such fast results!

I loved the webinar. At first I did think he wasn't really going to give us any answers but once he started answering the questions I was really impressed. You guys did a great job! Thank you again for putting it together! I know it took a lot of work to find the right trainer.

If the only thing someone took away from the webinair was that for $1 they could spend 3 days reading through the website in my opinion that should be considered a success.  I have only just finished reading / watching the 5 golden rules and have learned so much.  I have been going to obedience classes for 6 years and I've learned more from this with regard to my specific issues than I've learned from any of the trainers.  There are no quick fixes for problems that have taken us years to allow to become the norm.  I'm confident if I just stick with this, we will be successful here.
