The girls are up for their annual microchip registry renewal. HomeAgain is charging $17.99 per doodle. Anyone know of a good registry that either is free or costs less?
There are mixed reviews about ResQ chips and the company's record keeping of the pets info.

I might be wrong, but don't you have to register the chip with the company whose chip it is? For example, JD has an Avid chip; I don't think I can register that with Home Again or anyone else, can I?
Avid does not charge any fee. You register once and thet's it, unless the registration information changes. But I think they have to have an Avid chip to be on the Avid chip registry.
I have Avid too. I do think different companies use different chips. I paid once when I registered the chips the dogs with from their breeders.
I have AVID too and only paid once... not annually.
Ditto :)
I'm pretty sure you have to pay every year with Home Again. That's what Monty has. I don't mind, since they offer other services for the price, just like Sandy mentioned. I especially like that they send out emails to other registered users in your area in case your pet is lost. I kind of like them. Auggie came already microchiped with Avid. I had no choice. If I did, I would give him Home Again chip.
But the truth is that you pay only once with Avid. They have no fancy website and don't offer any additional services.
Plus, I believe that if you decide to switch, you would need to give the doodles a brand new chip. I don't think you can change the one they already have.
I too thought you only had to pay once...but we got a bill about 10 days ago from Home Away for $17.99.
If we dont have to pay each year...I sure hope dh hasnt paid it yet...I know he said he was going to.
I've never paid a dime to Avid since I had JD's chip registration changed to my name when I adopted him. But again, I don't think you get a choice of registries; I think you have to go with the one for your dog's chip.
is there a number I can call to reach someone at Avid to change my address? I had to pay to change ownership after we adopted Ollie but can't remember what website I used to make that change and everything is still in chaos as we are still unpacking after our move.
I have Avid too. The breeder registered the pups with Avid. It was their Microchip. I paid a one time $18.50 fee for single pet registration -- no additional fee. Here's the phone # 800-336-2843.
My info says there is a $6 processing fee if the current owner changes information. If there is a change in ownership a new registration fee is required which costs $19.95 This info is 2 years old so the fees may have changed.
thanks Cheryl! I want to get that info changed ASAP.
Sorry - I didn't read the fine print! If you don't pay the annual fee the chip info is in their computer system forever for pet recovery.
I don't phone assistance by their vets so the cash is staying in the checking account, until it is time to order more kibble.
