Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Since I have been a member on DK, I have learned so much useful information and a lot about members’ dogs.  I know about the illnesses that afflict some DK doodles.  I know which dogs are picky eaters and which ones have poop issues or behavior problems.  But it dawned on me, that with a few exceptions, I don’t really know much about the humans of DK.    Many of us recently stepped out of our comfort zones to post pictures of ourselves on our profiles, but there is no lasting record of that.  I know that DK members are compassionate people that are truly invested in the lives of their doodles, but what makes you tic?  Who are you when you have to step away from DK and enter the real world (the horror!!)?  So I challenge you to give us a little info about the person behind the dog.

I’ll go first.

Name: Amy

Location: Dyer, IN (35 minutes outside of Chicago)

Generation: Millennial   (http://www.cnn.com/interactive/2011/05/living/infographic.boomer/in...)

Birth Order: Oldest of 3 kids – the only girl

Family: Husband, no kids

Education: Purdue and DePaul

Occupation: CPA – I work as a tax analyst for a Steel Mill.  I hope to work as a Business Officer for a Public School in the near future; I want to feel like my job actually matters.

Biggest Fear:  I have a phobia of grasshoppers.  Yes, I know they don’t bite or anything but they just really freak me out.  They blend into their surroundings and when you least expect it they jump/fly around…yuck

General: super organized, sometimes impatient, a planner – not a spur of the moment type of person, shy – I much prefer to sit back and take it all in rather than be the center of attention, obsessed with details, cautious (I was going to list the craziest thing I had ever done, but then I couldn’t come up with anything so I had to leave it out!), and incredibly sarcastic – but I swear, I am NOT as boring as I sound!!

If I could have any pet (that isn’t a doodle), I would love to have:  A big fat penguin – one of those cute cartoony looking ones.

Addiction: A new yogurt place recently opened here (called Red Mango).  You go in and fill up a cup with as much or as little yogurt/soft serve ice cream as you want and then you can top it with all kinds of great toppings (candy, cookies, fruit, choc syrup, etc).  I have become an addict, especially now that it has gotten warm outside.  I go there at least once a week, and I’m sure it will get worse before it gets better.

Random Useless Fact About Me: I have eaten oatmeal almost every weekday morning since October 2009

Guilty Pleasure TV Show: Sister Wives -- I have no idea how I got started watching it, but now I am hooked.

I am a true Y&R watcher...can you believe Sharon is with Victor now...YUCK hehe

My name is Donna and I'm an addict, oops wrong meeting. :>)

Generation- I am smack in the middle of the Baby Boomers

Location- Torbay, Newfoundland, Canada

Birth order  I am a middle child with an older sister and a younger brother. The middle child thing might explain the inferiority complex I have.

I've been  married for 34 years to a wonderful man who is much better to me than I deserve sometimes. I have one son who we adopted when he was three months old, I always wanted twins but it was not to be. My son is now 24 and presently living on the other side of the country while working on his Electical Journeyman Certificate.

I worked as a secretary for a few years, hated it and went to nursing school. I work for 35 years in a pediatric hospital and retired at the end of March. If I were starting a career now I would love to be a carpenter.

Biggest Fear is public speaking and that is one I will never conquer. I have a fear of heights and water that is over my head. I am getting a little braver with the heights thing and I'm considering taking swimming lessons but I hate to get wet which makes taking a bath really difficult. :>)

Generally I am generally a shy person with strangers but am by no means quiet once I get to know you.  I used to blush terribly but have gotten better as I've aged or at least now I blame it on a hot flash. I like to do a lot of things but I am not really good at any of them. I would love to be able to write but I have a long standing hate relationship with puncuation. I would love to be super organized and a have a really clean house, I am working on both but I have a long way to go. I found dust today that is at least three years old. I love to be outside when the weather is good but I don't like sitting around so I garden.

If I could have any pet that wasn't a doodle, it would have to be another dog and a really big one! I do like little dogs but I love big dogs.

I too have to confess to being a reality TV junkie and am a little lost now that the shows I watched are finished for the season. I watch Survivor, Biggest Loser and Amazing Race. I will also watch Big Brother when it starts again. My newest guilty pleasure is Duck Dynasty, that show just cracks me up. My favorite TV station other than these is National Geographic.

Random useless fact, I have an inquiring mind, if I hear something that I am not familiar with I look it up, I have a head full of useless information. My friends are always asking me how I know all this stuff and it's because where others let things go by I have to know.

OK, I'm stopping now before you nod off, if you haven't already.

I'll never overcome my fear of PS either Donna....and like you, age has helped with the blushing.  I used to blush just having a conversation with someone I wasn't totally comfortable with - SO embarrassing - which made me blush even more...   Get older has it's benefits!

Duck Dynasty?  I'll have to look that one up.

You forgot that you are sharp as a tack : ) And if you write the great novel, a former ambition of mine, the editor's will fix all the punctuation. This coming from someone who was always chastised for writing run on sentences : ) I learned to swim in college or they wouldn't let me graduate. Still, I barely do.

F - my grandmother learned to swim at age 62.  Guess it's never too late!

Yes, we can all learn every day. I love having a new fact a day!

Me too F.....I just can't remember it the following day....

F my mother is 75 and learning to swim is on her bucket list. While she was in her swim class with many other seniors and a couple of support friends she accidentally flipped over on her " float noodle" got her feet tied up and nearly drowned until someone saw her butt in the air and helped her - she still goes but she said the experience was humiliating. She also laughs about it.

Poor mom but at least she perseveres.

Thanks F, when I write that novel I'll dedicate it to you. :>)

I have the same thing with the head full of useless information, trivia facts, historic tidbits, etc. It drives people batty I think. LOL! I can't imagine you being shy...
