Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Since I have been a member on DK, I have learned so much useful information and a lot about members’ dogs.  I know about the illnesses that afflict some DK doodles.  I know which dogs are picky eaters and which ones have poop issues or behavior problems.  But it dawned on me, that with a few exceptions, I don’t really know much about the humans of DK.    Many of us recently stepped out of our comfort zones to post pictures of ourselves on our profiles, but there is no lasting record of that.  I know that DK members are compassionate people that are truly invested in the lives of their doodles, but what makes you tic?  Who are you when you have to step away from DK and enter the real world (the horror!!)?  So I challenge you to give us a little info about the person behind the dog.

I’ll go first.

Name: Amy

Location: Dyer, IN (35 minutes outside of Chicago)

Generation: Millennial   (http://www.cnn.com/interactive/2011/05/living/infographic.boomer/in...)

Birth Order: Oldest of 3 kids – the only girl

Family: Husband, no kids

Education: Purdue and DePaul

Occupation: CPA – I work as a tax analyst for a Steel Mill.  I hope to work as a Business Officer for a Public School in the near future; I want to feel like my job actually matters.

Biggest Fear:  I have a phobia of grasshoppers.  Yes, I know they don’t bite or anything but they just really freak me out.  They blend into their surroundings and when you least expect it they jump/fly around…yuck

General: super organized, sometimes impatient, a planner – not a spur of the moment type of person, shy – I much prefer to sit back and take it all in rather than be the center of attention, obsessed with details, cautious (I was going to list the craziest thing I had ever done, but then I couldn’t come up with anything so I had to leave it out!), and incredibly sarcastic – but I swear, I am NOT as boring as I sound!!

If I could have any pet (that isn’t a doodle), I would love to have:  A big fat penguin – one of those cute cartoony looking ones.

Addiction: A new yogurt place recently opened here (called Red Mango).  You go in and fill up a cup with as much or as little yogurt/soft serve ice cream as you want and then you can top it with all kinds of great toppings (candy, cookies, fruit, choc syrup, etc).  I have become an addict, especially now that it has gotten warm outside.  I go there at least once a week, and I’m sure it will get worse before it gets better.

Random Useless Fact About Me: I have eaten oatmeal almost every weekday morning since October 2009

Guilty Pleasure TV Show: Sister Wives -- I have no idea how I got started watching it, but now I am hooked.

Name: Nancy or Nan

Location: Riverside - second generation Riversider and at least 4th generation Southern Californian. "Meeting" so many of you in other locales has made me appreciate the temperate climate of California, even the hot and smoggy days as far as taking care of pets and being able to ride a motorcycle or open jeep are concerned.

Generation: Baby Boomer

Birth Order: Youngest of two, but my sister is out of the family picture totally

Family: Wonderful husband - high school sweethearts who will celebrate our 40th anniversary this summer.  Three grown children and grandmother to one 1 1/2 year-old cutie-pie and a 3 year-old grand niece. Being a grandmother is the BEST, but both girls are very partial to their Papa Skip. What is it about little girls and the men in their lives???? Of course, I am pretty partial to him myself.

Education: U. of Riverside - never even left for college!

Occupation: retired teacher (as of last June)

Biggest Fear: I am pretty much a wimp who had to toughen it up to be a mother to active, athletic kids and dogs :-}, but I really hate stepping on dead things in the dark or loose creatures that slither or scamper.  Used to be terrified of riding the motorcycle on the freeway.

General:  I love "camping" in our RV.  New pastime since retiring:  joining a motorcycle club with DH and taking bike trips - something I thought I would NEVER enjoy.  I used to be a great organizer and housekeeper, but since I retired, all house work and filing is 'manana' i.e. tomorrow.  Since retiring we have also taken up water aerobics.

If I could have any pet (that isn’t a doodle), I would love to have:  An Okapi or even something that does NOT bark, fly or slither.

Addiction: I Love to read - and since retiring, I read about 5 books a week - guess I don't have a life....  I rarely read anything that is socially redeeming - pure junk. My favorites are mysteries and adventure books, but I will read anything that isn't horror or have child or animal abuse. Personal opinion - anyone who hurts animals or children should just be shot.

Random Useless Fact About Me: I have horrible hair - baby fine. In my next life, I am going to be taller and have great hair!

Guilty Pleasure TV Show: I am hooked on reality shows like "Say Yes To the Dress,"  "Dance Moms" (not the Miami one), "My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding" - both versions, and HGTV.  I also rarely miss NCIS.

I'll join you in hoping to be tall with great hair in my next life; but I'll add having (slightly) bigger boobs and bigger feet!

I will take the boobs but not the feet!

why would you want bigger feet, Deanna?  All the shoes look so much cuter in the smaller sizes.  I would love to be able to wear a smaller sized shoe!

Check out most shoe stores and almost all catalogs - shoes start at size 6.  I wear a 5, so it's VERY difficult to find shoes.  Shopping in the kids section isn't really an option as I'm not really into having Elmo on my tennis shoes!  In my next life, I don't want to be "Big Foot", I just want to be a size 6!

Deanna, I wish I could loan you some of my feet :) If they get any bigger, I will be shopping at the clown shoe shop!!

Nancy, Dance Mom's question for you:  Did Abby quit?  She just left in that last episode!

New Dance Moms with Abby is coming in June!!!! I can't wait.  I really wondered if she had a bit of a breakdown and that it wasn't "promoted/scheduled/ suggested" because she really seemed to have just lost it over Maddie's 'freeze.'  What do you think?

All the parents seemed shocked that she just packed her bag and left.  It will be interesting to see what they say about it in the new season (which i didn't know was starting in June, so thanks for mentioning it!).

absolutly love my big fat gypsy wedding. Very fascinating show

I want to be tall with amazing metabolism in my next life... :-) I love high school sweetheart stories... (sigh)

don't wish to be too tall.  It is a pain to find pants that are long enough.
