Why did you choose a doodle?

So why did you decide you wanted to get a doodle? Why not a pure bred poodle or golden retriever or lab? Why did you decide to get a mix? Just curious to hear everyone's responses. Thanks.

We had a standard poodle and a shepherd that had always been together.  The shepherd died and the poodle was beside himself with grief.  I wanted a companion for him and my BIL asked if I had seen a labradoodle.  Since we liked poodles and labs, that sounded like a good mix.  This was in 2003, and they were rather new on the scene.  I looked on line and picked a puppy I liked and asked them to send him.  It began my experience with labradoodles and he was the best dog I have EVER had.  Since then, I have had a goldendoodle, an ALD, a Jackapoo, and most recently a sheepadoodle.  I love doodles and will always have more than one dog.  They have a nice energy level, are intelligent, and do not shed.  Great house dogs.

Met a doodle, fell in love with a doodle, researched, found excellent breeder, and the rest is history. The other breeds never entered my mind, and if they had I would have dismissed one for shedding and one for appearance. Just not a fan of the poodle look.
