Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I have been reading a lot of "i am sorries" on random posts about all the misinformation given to new Doodle puppy parents.

I began to wonder why can't we post the breeders name at least  in our profile?

This should be a simple way to attempt to hold breeders accountable.  This DK is a social media site...and these sites have proven to be so helpful world wide in creating good practices and holding people to an honest standard.

I want to add that, i have not received my doodle pup yet..i will on this friday.

So, i have no axe to grind. Just think this is such a valuable site and could add a real measure of clarity, transparency & candor to all breeders communication with the prospective owners.

Kind of a  "Doodle Angie's list"

Curious to hear what anyone thinks. Keeping these misleading breeders in the shadows..helps no one but, the less than veracious breeder.

Maybe I read this post wrong but I thought it was more so a question as to why people don't post the breeders name when they are talking about a bad experience. Those posts already find their way onto the discussions, blogs, comments, etc.. but the poster just says "my breeder did this" or "my breeder didn't tell me this".  I think what Rodney is getting at is that if the name is included it could help others to avoid that breeder. In that case one couldn't use the recommended breeders group for that because that group is reserved for recommendations and not warnings.

I had some poor experiences with some breeders in my search as well but it hasn't come up in any of my discussions. If it had, I'm sure I would have shared the names though but I also wouldn't have started it in it's own discussion because I would not want to contribute to clogging up the main page with that.

I agree with everything Joanne and BG said about keeping breeder's names out of the public areas of the site--I think that could lead to all kinds of trouble and really change the nature of DK. But the way I read the post, Rodney is asking if we can put our breeder's name on our profile page. I just reviewed community guidelines and I honestly couldn't tell whether this would be allowed or not.

Ah, maybe that is what she meant?  Dunno?  Either way, glad we don't.  And, there are sites that do just this~ breeders post, owners post.  Good enough too.  And, this site is just not that.  If we want to go to the breeders and owners forums we have that option.

I did specifically mean on our profile page. However, after reading all the responses I do see that the way it's done now..works well for what the intended purpose is...to assist doodle owners...avoid contentious battles with breeders etc...and not really provide to much "retail" info to prospective owners... Makes sense..however, I was helped in the pursuit of finding the right breeder by a DK member by private email..ok, I give.."it ain't broke...so no need to tinker"

People can always contact the person posting privately , and then that person may or may not respond.

I definitely agree that this is the best approach- especially when it's something negative because it's kept to a private message which doesn't leave room for attacks and breeders or supporters of the breeders coming on in defensive mode.

I agree with BG and Joanne.

I also think that what will happen if make public complaints about breeders by name is that we will then have huge fights debates going on, with the breeders and their supporters coming in to dispute what is being said and defend themselves. We have seen this once or twice before. Heck, we've had the owners of a vitamin company join the site to defend their product after I said it wasn't necessary, lol. We had a pet insurance agent come in to try to promote his company over another one.

Besides, with all the information here and elsewhere on the internet, the problem remains that people don't read it. How many times does someone say "I didn't know". They didn't know about unsafe dog treats from China, they didn't know about pet store puppies and puppy mills, etc. yet the information is out there for anyone to find. Anyone who is old enough to buy a puppy should be able to read. Anyone who can afford to buy a puppy should be aware of the expression "Buyer beware."

I think it is much more helpful to present factual information here that helps people choose a good breeder and dispels the myths about "perfect non-shedding living teddy bear toys for kids puppies" than to name breeders who have been less than honest. Let's face it, it would be hard to find a doodle breeder's website that doesn't paint an overly rosy picture at the very least. They are selling something.

And, whether it's a breeder, a vacuum cleaner, or a restaurant, you are going to find people who have had bad experiences and people who love it. How do you separate those who have legitimate complaints from someone who does just have an axe to grind? It's basically one person's word against another.

I too am sick of the people who use DK for their own purposes and give nothing back. Let's not tempt more of them to join.

Ahhh, Karen, the voice of reason! Great response. That makes perfect sense. I did not even think about how that would open the door for all of the debates and people coming in just to play defense.

Star, we have  had these.  Down right UGLY

UGLY  Some members were threatened, some even changed their names.

NO discussions on breeders!

This was an attempt to be fair.  We don't allow people to post rave reviews about breeders (except in the appropriate group) because sometimes people will give a rave review about a breeder that isn't actually all that great. But they love their dog and their dog turned out great so they believe the breeder was great.  That same breeder may not health test, may not care about whether the dog is bred, etc.

Since we don't allow positive reviews, we felt it was best to prohibit negative reviews as well.  Sometimes people get irritated about things a breeder does/doesn't do that are more business related than breeding practice related.  And then the breeder gets a bad name or a big he said/she said fight ensues in our forum.

I realize that sometimes this will mean that 'bad breeders' will not get mentioned.  However, anyone who is truly interested in finding a good breeder will follow the guidelines for picking a good breeder.   Additionally anyone is allowed to ask questions about a particular breeder and get private feedback from anyone who has had experience with said breeder or who knows some things about that breeder.  You can ask "I'm considering Pie in the Sky Kennels.  Anyone have any experience with them?  Are they worth considering?"

A few like to threaten lawsuits and such.  And while I don't think any lawsuit would actually happen because someone on a forum shared their biased opinion on an experience with a breeder, it just gets ugly and I'd rather avoid that.

Fair & reasonable. I accept the logic & principles you are speaking about.
