Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi all,

I'm choosing between 2 red males-they're F1B's. At 4-5 weeks, the one I thought I wanted was a red and looked like he'd get nice & wavy by 9 weeks. Here he is at 7 weeks & his face doesn't look nearly as wavy as I thought it would. He almost doesn't look like the same dog! His siblings are much more wavy--like the 3rd picture.

Honestly, both are seriously cute, you can't go wrong.

I agree. Personally I prefer the slightly wavy to the curly as adults.

Ditto!

They both look like great choices to me.  If the coat is really important, hold out for one that looks just the way you want, but I think there are more important things to take a look at when you are selecting the perfect pup.

Since the pup is an f1b, I think there is a very strong possibility that he will "doodle out".   I stay in contact with many of the families who have gotten pups from Webster's breeder.  We enjoy sharing pictures of our doodles as they grow. Here is one of the pups who is an f1b and reminds me of the picture you posted.

Here's a picture of that same pup (the one on the left I think) at around 8 months?

Oh my heavens- look at those pups! They are both cute, but I agree that if you're looking for a guaranteed "doodle" look, you may want to pick the one who has already had his face beginning to fill in. Have you been able to meet them and play with them yet to find out personality differences?

It's so hard to tell when they are that young.  You can't go wrong - I would go with the one with a personality that most suits what you are looking for.

They all get so much curlier as the get older. Mine had a nice wavy coat at 8 weeks. At two years you wouldn't be able to tell her from a standard poodle. Look at the puppy to adult group for more examples. I'd go with the less curly one.

They are both cute! All the pups in the litter are really cute! I guess I thought the first pup would have filled out more by now, it looked like he had facial furnishings in the first picture. I get to select and take home at 9 weeks- so we'll see how much they change from now until then. I had thought I'd pick the most straight coat, since they're F1B's, they'd doodle out nicely without becoming very curly.

From what the breeder told me-the bottom pup has a better personality, she said the top pup is a little dominant, but she thinks it's due to his size. I have first pick- so I guess I'll wait and see, how I interact with them all when I go to pick them up.

It's crazy that I only have 14 more days! It's getting so close!

Jess- sounds like our pups are almost the exact same age- mine was seven weeks old on Wednesday! And they are very similar in color. It will be so fun to watch them grow and change! It also seems we are looking for similar coats- I, too, chose the straighter coat because of the f1b tendency to curl as the coat changes. So exciting!

Here is mine at 7 weeks

Stephanie- The pups are 7 weeks old today! So they really are almost the same age! It'll be fun to compare since they're so similar and are both F1B's!

Also- not sure about others' experiences, but my breeder said that 9 weeks old is when she seems to see the puppies really start to show their "doodle" hair growing in, so hopefully that will be a perfect time for you to be able to look more closely at the coat along with his personality when you are picking him out!
