I have been checking out the Petsafe Wireless Fence system online and it gets good reviews. Before I invest in one I wonder if any of you have used it for your Doodle. Rosie's fenced area is very small and this would give her a much bigger area. Share your thoughts...thanks

I don't know about the Petsafe Wireless System but I do have the INNOTEK 5100 invisible fence. I did a lot of research on these systems. For the price the 5100 is the best. It comes with a really nice collar and what's really nice is it has a handheld thing so you can use it outside of your yard. Say your at a park or something. That way she's not on a leash and much more happy. Just give her a little sound and she's at my side in a second. I'm very happy with the system. I ordered it on e-bay because it was there newest system and the stores around here don't have it. My husband rented a trencher for $50 for the day and installed it. He said it was very easy. Most of my neighborhood has this system and they all really like it. You can google INNOTEK 5100 and go to website and learn all about it. Also, their phone help is very quick and helpful if you do ever have a problem.
I have had the Invisible Fence system on prior dogs, and have just purchased a unit for Riley( I left previous system with my ex). I haven't installed it yet, but I have tried other cheaper systems before getting the Invisible Fence. It is pricey, but you can look on Ebay for it too and get a pretty good deal on a used unit or a new DIY unit.
We have Invisible Fence Brand and it is incredible, I would recommend getting it from them rather than off the internet or from a big box store, reason being is that they come out, give a quote, install the fence and train the dog(and you) We have two doodles and one was only 9 wks old at the time we installed and they were sooooo good with her, and then as she grew they came out to the house(no charge) and adjusted the collar, we even had a problem once with her challenging the boundary and they came out the same day I called them and corrected the problem. Now we are worry free with them outside, it's a good feeling, good luck :)
Even if you do buy it off Ebay or from someone used. They will come out a train for you. There is ovbiously a trainer fee since you did not purchase the unit from them, but you still get the same quality training and support.
This is all true but some people do have to think about price. I understand if they come and do all that it's $1600. - $2000. (Maybe I'm wrong). INNOTEK 5100 cost us about $350. Doodles are so easy to train. In my experience, I've had no problems. I wouldn't start a puppy on it though until they are at least 4 months. Re: other dogs in the yard, I like other dogs to come and visit. I guess I'm spoiled - we only have nice dogs in my area - maybe stupid but they are friendly. Re: regular above ground fence. Yes, that's the best. My subdivisiion does not allow this.
I have the Petsafe Wireless system. It works wonderfully as long as I keep the batteries changed. I don't leave my dog outside when I am not at home and the system would not prevent any animals from coming in your yard. I think it is a good system for the money. Setup takes less than an hour. You will have to train your dog to use the system. Mine learned the boundaries within a week and I took the flags up in about 1.5 weeks. Also, the system will only cover 1/2 an acre, if you need more space you will have to buy two transmitters. Also, the signal emits in a circular area. So your house needs to be pretty centered in your lot to get the full range.
I live in a senior subdivision and yes it comes with a bunch of rules. Our dogs can't be bigger than 35 pounds, no fences, etc. I got the dog for my granddaughter Michaela who wanted a dog so badly. Since the girls are here weekdays both before and after school I agreed to get the pup. She also is great company for me. Some days I think I must have lost my mind getting her when I'm sweeping up everything that she has chewed that day and cleaning up the potty mess when she forgets to ring her bells. I know she needs more exercise than she's getting. I also want her to be able to chase around and play with the girls and not always be leashed. There are no local dog parks in my area. I will check into the Invisible Fence to see just how costly it is compared to the Petsafe. She will never be left outside unattended so I think either will probably work for us. She pees on the floor, comes on command when she wants to, chews up everything in the house, costs a fortune in grooming, vet and food but we wouldn't give her up for the world. She is a LOVE and as cute as a button.
