Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
We've discussed this before but I am serious - I need to know who might take my boys if something were to happen to both dh & I. We are traveling out of the country this Saturday for a weeks vacation and I need to have peace of mind. While we love our parents and children - not a one of them could take BOTH of my boys as they all have dogs of their own, they don't have time to devote or enough space. If you:
1. would love my boys as much as your own doodle(s)
2. promise to never, ever split them up
3. are mostly home and have the time and space - Stuart is about 70 lbs now so please keep that in mind
4. could organize a doodle train to get them from FL
I could leave them to their beloved dog sitter but I would rather them stay in a doodle/DK family if possible. If you are serious please send me a private email and that way I can leave written instructions - just in case. **********************
I believe that the perfect candidate has stepped forward - I'm thrilled!!! So now I can go about vacation with a happy heart!!!! I'll be leaving her contact info with my daughter so that anytime in the future she can be contacted!!!!! Our approved God-mother can out herself or not if she chooses. Thanks for understanding my concerns everyone!

Thank you Jennifer. Hopefully this surgery will help and I will no longer have the symptoms I have been experiencing and will have no complications. I know my DH would NOT want to rehome them and he would try to find a way but he really would have to become more in tune with their medical needs. I know he wouldn't give them their shots, he hates needles! I also told him he would have to learn to give them hugs and kisses. He pets them, plays and snuggles with them but refuses to hug and kiss them. lol How can he not want to hug and kiss them?!?!? I need to research what is available in my area to help with their care while I recover and to give my hubby a break as he, and hopefully his mother, will be able to stay with me while I recover.
Ann, I'm sorry to hear you need surgery and wish you all the best for a speedy recovery. I think Sheba and Duke will be fine with your DH, while you recover, as long as he has good backup plans for when he's working. Now is a good time t0 find someone who can come over daily for a little while, to give shots, etc. As to the expense, if heaven forbid, something happens to both of you, I have left instructions about money to go to my dogs' care should I die. That way they would not be a burden to one of my sons if they were to take them in. Who would have thought we'd need to worry about such things but it's a good reason to get and stay well.
Thank you F. You're right, who would have thought we would have to worry about these things. I know Sheba and Duke, should they live a long life, will probably be my last dogs. I would consider fostering after they are gone so that I could still have a dog, so to speak. : ) We will make provisions in our wills for our dogs but need to find someone to take them, preferably someone we know.
Ann, I'm sorry about your surgery :( but I'm sure your dh would do his best. Should anything happen to me my dh would be in a pickle as he travels all of the time. Thankfully we have a wonderful dog sitter that the boys love who can take them over night - then we have a doggie daycare if it is just for a day. Or perhaps you could find a dog walker that would be willing to do the shots. I think you'd feel better if you lined up some of these services now. That way if you are down recovering - your dh has some help. Also do we have any DKers that live near you - perhaps they could offer to lend a hand?
Thank you Jane for the suggestions. So far I haven't found many resources in our area. I would only trust one place locally for daycare and short term boarding but they are at least 20 miles in the opposite direction of where we live and they aren't open when DH leaves for work. There are only a couple local DKers. One already has 3 doodles and works full time and the other that I know works full time, has one doodle, and may be able to help in a limited capacity as they both live across town. I am also going to call my vets office to see if they have any recommendations on good dog sitters and maybe they know of someone who lives close enough that could possibly give shots. They don't need shots every day so that's a good thing. If all goes well I'll have at least a month or two to pull this together.
Do you have any friend who are diabetic and give themselves injections? If so, I'll bet they could help with that in the short term.
Actually I do know someone Nancy. I hadn't thought of this. Thank you!!
You are welcome.
Yes, How could you NOT hug and kiss a doodle?? Good luck to you!!
Thank you! : )
They are certainly two beauties! Good luck to you with your surgery. It's good that you have time now to get their care plans in order!
Thank you Janie. : )
