Don't worry, I am not going to mention any names. Lol. I felt this was a nice side note to the discussion about why we don't mention breeders names. But stories like this are nice to hear IMHO.

We are getting ready to revise our Wills this month. And I felt it important to discuss plans for Murphy and Bella with our children, in the event something should happen to both of us at the same time. We are Harley riders so who knows?
Anyway, they both have 2 dogs of their own and we let them know that we wouldn't expect them to take two more on or even one in each home if they didn't feel up to it and to not feel obligated. So we talked about what they should do. We named a friend or two who would take one or both, we discussed asking here on DK, as you all know my guys so well, and we contacted our breeder to ask her if need be, would she want them to be sent back to her to decide on a home for them.

Our breeder, as many of you know, is the cats meow in my opinion, but I was truely amazed at her answer. She stated that she would certainly fly down from Michigan to Az. To get them herself if need be.
What a sense of relief it is to know that our children would have such a great option available to them especially at a time when they would be overwhelmed with everything else we'd be leaving for them to deal with.
It feels good and I wanted to share. So, do you think you could count on YOUR breeder to do this?

I don't think either of my breeders would do this. I hope to stick around and pray that my sons would do something good for the dogs. I have informally set aside money for the dogs care.

F, How do you think they'd feel about Newfoundland?

I think they'd adore it : )

Wow, what logistics would be involved getting two big dogs to Newfoundland?

It seems to me my sons should be so happy that the doodles have such a good chance at happiness that they'd better plan a road trip : ) But darn, I want to o too and this scenario rules that out.

Maybe you need to plan a dry run with the doodles this spring. ;o)

That is a good point F. Should the breeder need to fly down it would be nice if she were reimbursed although I doubt shed expect that. Either way, monies for food and vet expenses certainly are in order especially if the kids take them. These doodle ain't cheap!!!! And neither of them groom their dogs themselves. May need lots of $$$$ set aside.
Yes. The dogs no doubt cost several thousand a year but that doesn't include if someone can't have 2 or more dogs in a place. One son has a dog and the keeps saying he's getting one.

I don't think so, but only one of mine is from a breeder.  But I'm not sure I'd want to send them to my breeder, no offense if she is reading.  I would rather they go to someone who would give them a similar life and put an obedience title on Boca.

I agree with the similar life especially. And keeping them together would be optimum.

Tell that sweet breeder of yours, I will meet her and help her get your dogs to a safe and happy place. I think, many of us would!

Oh Joanne, how very touching that is! I do believe our DK community would help all they could.
