Don't worry, I am not going to mention any names. Lol. I felt this was a nice side note to the discussion about why we don't mention breeders names. But stories like this are nice to hear IMHO.

We are getting ready to revise our Wills this month. And I felt it important to discuss plans for Murphy and Bella with our children, in the event something should happen to both of us at the same time. We are Harley riders so who knows?
Anyway, they both have 2 dogs of their own and we let them know that we wouldn't expect them to take two more on or even one in each home if they didn't feel up to it and to not feel obligated. So we talked about what they should do. We named a friend or two who would take one or both, we discussed asking here on DK, as you all know my guys so well, and we contacted our breeder to ask her if need be, would she want them to be sent back to her to decide on a home for them.

Our breeder, as many of you know, is the cats meow in my opinion, but I was truely amazed at her answer. She stated that she would certainly fly down from Michigan to Az. To get them herself if need be.
What a sense of relief it is to know that our children would have such a great option available to them especially at a time when they would be overwhelmed with everything else we'd be leaving for them to deal with.
It feels good and I wanted to share. So, do you think you could count on YOUR breeder to do this?

There you go, we should all just name Karen as the doodle next-of-kin!

Everyone could just put that on the back of their dog's tags.  "In Case of Emergency Contact Karen"

Great idea Amy! Karen can be everyone's emergency contact! I'm sure she will love being volunteered for this job.

Well, look at the wonderful home I found for Ollie, lol.

Seriously, if any of your dogs ever needed a new home, God forbid, I wouldn't sleep anyway, so you might as well name me, lol.

I will add you to the important papers, NK.

F, in your case, I might just move in as a live-in caretaker. JD would love that yard, lol.

Seriously, and may it never be necessary, it would be my privilege.

Karen, bless you, that is such a wonderful thought.

Since we are all leaving generous sums of money to care for them this could work out for you, dear! You love dogs and a few extra bucks might come in handy. Just so we all don't drop dead at once, huh?

If you guys are smart, your executor will have instructions on how the doodles' money is to be spent. Just sayin, lol!

Now you've got me thinking, how much should be set aside for their care? Geez, I think about $1000 per year at least. Hey JD, can you make a Trust Acct for doodles? I'm thinking there needs to be a social security number involved. What ya think?

You don't need a separate trust account, if you have a trust, you can earmark some of those funds for the dogs' care, AFAIK.

As to how much, $1000/year wouldn't even cover JD's acupuncture, lol, so I'm no help there. With no insurance and all his health issues, we have a different situation than most of you. His care would be a serious financial burden for most people. :(

I think I spend more than a thousand on each dog but I really don't know. But that may be a ballpark figure for a dog with no special needs if you do your own grooming. But if we throw in grooming, boarding for a vacation, or dog walking etc. It could climb.
