Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
I took Meg in for her bath this morning and while we were waiting for the groomer to get there we practiced her manners a bit. A man pulled up with a truckload of 'tweeners' to do some service work at the vet's office there. He came right over, with all the kids, and asked if he could approach her and I gave him permission. He then asks, 'if she a full Airedale?' and I said not at all, she is a scruffy coated labradoodle. and he actually says, "oh, she is a mutt..." what? Did he really say that to us? Don't ask me how, because I was seething after it was over but I continued to smile and said to him, "of course she is a mutt, a well bred mutt to tell the truth, BUT, she does not know that, no matter what she just thinks she is a well cared for, well mannered and much loved part of the family and no matter what type of dog she walks past...she knows she is just as good" Why would any one think it is there business to point out the pedigree or lack of for any one else's pet, my own pedigree is pretty mixed...just sayin.
By the way, we were still practicing our 'sit/stay' with all the commotion when he came back out and decided to compliment her on her behavior.

Judy, I think it is very sad when people do this and I don't understand it! While walking one day with Libby a gentleman (?? on gentleman) asked me what kind of a dog she was and when I said a Labradoodle, he laughed and said, "oh, a fru fru" dog! I did not answer him and walked on!
I understand how you feel, and it wasn't really necessary for him to say it, but I don't think the word "mutt" is necessarily a derogatory thing. Hopefully, he didn't mean to be insulting. If he'd said "Oh, she's just a mutt" or "Oh, she has no pedigree" or there was a disapproving tone to the comment, maybe. But I call JD a mutt all the time, lol. Try not to let it bother you, There are stupid people all over the place, don;t let them spoil your day.
Yes, this is kind of what I was thinking. I don't really view "mutt" as a negative word, I usually hear people say it in a good humored way. I have no problem telling people that Darwin is a mixed breed, that doesn't make him (or any other "mutt") any less loveable, adorable, worthwhile, etc.
I always tell people Darwin is a Poodle mix. I mean, he is! :-)
If he was saying it in a way that was designed to be insulting then poo on him. Rude people are so unpleasant.
Camilla, you are absolutely right, it's not the term mutt that is offensive but the fact that it was used in a derogatory way. Someone offered me $3000 for my mutt yesterday. :>)
Quincy is priceless. Those people were nuts!
LOL, Bonnie that's pretty much what I told them. Selling Quincy would be like selling my son, now mind you, there were a few times I would have sold my son for much cheaper than that. :>))
Would have been a huge bargain for them! Let me be the first to know if Q is up for sale. I will drive out (wink).
Did someone say Quincy is for sale? Donna, I'm filling my car with gas and I should be there in 36 hours LOL Gosh, my car is kind of small. I hope he fits :>))
BG and Cheryl, do I see a bidding war in the making? :>))))
:>)) Nahhh...we could offer you a million dollars and I'm betting the big guy isn't going anywhere but a girl can dream. Anyhow we'd all miss the magnificent Quincy pictures with icebergs, whales, mountains LOL
