Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Last night as I was checking out at Walmart and a lady came bustling up to me and excitedly ask how Hattie was. I must have had a totally blank look on my face. I didn't recognize her and was kind of taken by surprise with her enthusiasm. I just kind of stood there and stared for a minute and then replied, "Fine. She's good. She's at home." All the time racking my brain for who the heck she was! I really didn't want to ask. I'm really bad with names but I usually remember faces. Especially those associated with Hattie. She finally said, "Oh, you don't know me, I just met her in Petsmart once and have seen you with her in other stores."

Then today, I had Hattie with me as always and ran into Office Depot for a binder and a young girl came up and said hi to Hattie. She knew her name. Really? "Hi," she says to me. "I used to work at Petsmart and I remember Hattie. She was my favorite dog! I always loved her red shoes!"

This all happens quite frequently with Hattie. I gues she has what people would call a magnetic personality. What I lack in people skills, Hattie more than makes for!

Do these followings ever happen with your Doodle?

I take my two into my Bank America branch. The doodles and the bank employees love each other.

Hattie is a celebrity.  Very cool.

For those interested in University/college work, I have a contact person I work with who was contacted by a student who single-handedly set up the program--the student emails all the other students telling them that the dogs will be in a certain place at a certain time--we have two hour shifts with 5 dogs "working" on each shift and there are dogs there for 4 hours total--there are signs directing them as well.
There was one thing I was not happy with last time, but it worked out--because the setting and situation was so casual as compared to a nursing home or hospital, some people took out dog treats and had their dogs doing tricks--jumping, dancing, etc. My Mattie's eyes bugged out when she saw those bags of treats--but I have a rule that when she has her therapy dog scarf on there will be NO TREATS! (That is necessary or she would be begging from everyone!) She knows that now and although she was interested in what was happening, she behaved herself and didn't go over to those people to see what they had to offer.....but they were breaking every rule of Therapy Dogs International. Otherwise, it was great.
I would say that you should contact an office of student affairs or student activities to see if they want to have a therapy dog visit day--especially around finals. A lot of schools are doing this now so they may already have a program/

Thanks for the info Ginny.  I will message you :)

Gotta face the truth, our doods are a whole lot cuter than we are. :>)

LOL

Wait, I just remembered when you said this, I did have ONE fan!  He said Wow, now she is cute, and I am not talkin about the dog!  Sadly though, he was a little creepy so we just moved right along!  So I guess you are right.

Way to go Hattie, stealer of hearts!  Tara only has a small following around our neighborhood. All the regular walkers know her name but have never asked for  mine or my DH's. LOL!

Hattie should be known far and wide. She's such a cutie!

Kona and Owen do not usually leave the yard after 7:15 am. We take them out at 6:15, and there aren't many others out at that hour. According to my DH they have made friends with lots of people at the grocery store where they are tied outside for a minute while my he runs in to get a bearclaw for our weekend treat.

The thing is I am one of those people who knows every dog's name but don't remember the name of the owner! So you are Hattie's mom to me, haha (except on DK, of course)

I did have one guy say that Quincy and I made a good couple, not sure if he was saying we were both cute or that I was a dog. :>))
