Hello DK! Just wanted to give you a quick update on my baby.
3 days and $1800 later, they diagnosed her with gastroenteritis. I must say that I am not happy with the bill and the girls that did not update me every time I called. I was happy Zoe was able to come last night but wish I would've brought her back sooner :(

As soon as she came home she went poop and it wasn't as watery or bloody as before but still really soft and spots of red and orange. Afterwards I tried to give her some chicken and guess what? She gobbled it all up! :). She's still eating grass and very lethargic but I think she will be better in a couple of days. They gave us panacur and the dr explained they use it in small amounts for anti diarrhea.

She was so exhausted last night and still this morning. I'm pretty sure being in the hospital in a cage for 3 days will exhaust you. Made me think how stressed out and sad all the shelter dogs are...
Anyways I hear her stomach rumbling but not sure if its from hunger or her diarrhea. Going to boil more chicken. Thank you all so much for all the helpful information and support! Happy weekend everyone!

Delighted Zoe is home now to get her back to full health but the worrying is thank goodness over.   Boris had a serious bout of gastroenteritis three weeks ago...very scary.  We had 36 hours of keeping him hydrated using every trick in the book. I didn't end up having to resort to the ER vet though I was on the phone to them very often.  To transition back I made a chicken broth with some white rice and fed it very loose as Boris would not drink.  If Zoe is drinking water i would just do boiled chicken and rice for a few days and then as things improve poop wise gradually introduce her normal food.  It took a full week at least for Boris to get back to normal.

Whew, thank goodness.  There is no place like home.  Bender, be a good brother and give her a little space but I have a feeling she was thrilled to see you too.

Bender is bored because Zoe won't play with him. He pulled out some of the sprinkler hoses. Dh played chase with him for awhile so he's tired now lol

So glad she is home and healing! Great news!

So good to hear. Have to ask Karen if pumpkin would be recommended in a case like this? If Zoe likes it. Or even some yogurt. Worth a try.

Ordinarily I would say yes, but with her still having blood in the stool, eating grass, stomach rumbling, etc., I'm afraid her gut is still irritated and I would be worried about adding more fiber right now. I'd wait a couple of days. The yogurt I think would be okay, but be sure not to give it within a couple of hours of the Panacur.

That is understandable. I'm a big fan of pumpkin but in this case the fiber could be stressful for an already irritated intestine.
Oh good call sue! I didn't even think about that. Ill try some yogurt but she's not loving the panacur so it varies when she will eat it. She's only eating chicken and won't eat the rice :(

No yogurt within 2 hours of the Panacur. Plain mashed potaotes is a good idea. You can also try cream of rice cereal. No milk or butter added in either case.

Cream of rice cereal? I never heard of that but will look it up. Going to the grocery store in the morning :) thanks Karen!

It is good--for humans and dogs!

It's just like cream of wheat, but with rice instead. Very bland, very easy on the gut.
