Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

My friend has two Newfoundlands who tended to get ear infections. She is very knowledgeable and particular when it comes to her animals. When I told her Django had an ear infection she made the following suggestion. Thought I'd pass it in in case it can help anyone :

"Zymox Otic....We haven't had any ear infections after we started using it and if their ears start to look red...we just give them a squirt and within a few days their ears are perfect. And you can buy without prescription.  Amazon has it as well as Ebay....The one we use has Hydrocortisone as that's what the vet started us on...but looks like they sell one without the hydrocortisone.

Anyway, my vet was really impressed and calls it a miracle for ear infections.  It has enzymes that eat the bacteria, wax etc.    Noticed on the web...they don't want you to use it if you are using anything else in the ears...but once Django is done with this infection....you can use it to prevent others.   When ours has an ear infection...we squirt them every other day...I think...it's been a long time, the don't really get them anymore.   But...for maintenance....vet said to just squirt some in once a month.  No mess...You don't have to clean it out.   Our vet said the enzymes eat all the bad stuff...and then I guess they just dry up and go away...but it's easy."

I love Zymox. I've been using it when Ollie gets smelly, itchy ears. It makes the smell vanish in 1 application. The hundreds of reviews I've read are incredible. I order mine on Amazon.
Wilson doesn't get too many ear infections but he does get one in January, why I am not sure  but I will order some from Amazon, so glad it works
I love this stuff!  I also recommend using it before going to the groomers and afterwards for several days.  Jake has been ear infection free for almost a year since my vet recommended it - that is a miracle!
Molly has not had an ear infection...but I did notice as I was giving her a bath yesterday, that her ears are really gross. I know some people clean dog ears out often, and I want to start, can I just use the Zymox once a month to clean Mollys ears? or do I need something else, since she doesn't get ear infections (or hasn't gotten one)?
Thanks!
I would love to get my hands on some of that stuff, it sounds very good but sadly no one will supply International!
It looks like some sellers on Ebay will ship it internationally.
I was on Amazon and no go there, thanks I will try Ebay now.
Just got it on Ebay, thanks another addition for my Pet Medicine and First Aid cabinet
We used Zymax Otic on our Newfies, Mastiffs, Danes, the Rottie, the Neo and now the doodles (and Poodle)  It is a miracle product!
So you can also use it for maintenance? That is the stuff he vet gave us and I think we still have some left. Maybe I will start using it once a month for prevention. It did help clear his ears when he had an ear infection (now I pay extra attention to his ears and they are always so clean. I clean them once a week still but everytime I do, hardly anything comes out.) but it took almost two weeks but I think his ear infection was pretty bad. It seems like good stuff. The other medicine the vet gave us was something else and it made his ears really greasy, this one the Zymox Otic didn't as much.
My friend's Newfoundland was getting ear infections almost once a month or so, and her vet told to use the Zymox Otic once a month for prevention. That was a few years ago her Newf has never had another infection. With Django's long, floppy Doodle ears, his love of water, and one ear infection already at five months, preventitve steps sound good to me!
Thanks for the info-we are almost out of ear cleaner so we will check this out!
