Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi everyone! We just welcomed our new mini aussiedoodle (Howard) to our family (big brother is a 60# goldendoodle named Cooper). While it's only been 2 days, it has been a very different experience to Cooper and I'm seeking your help. Howard is incredible sweet and brave and playful (not to mention adorable) but he has been crying like crazy at night and when we have him in his activity pen.

Cooper adjusted so well to being home and I'm not quite sure what to do and if Howard's behaviour is normal. At night, we have him in a small crate raided so it's level with our bed. The first night he cried a LOT and finally settled between 2 am and 6 am. I knew the first night would be rough but the second was even worse. He cried every our and I think we got about 2 hours of sleep!

During the day, we've been putting him in the large exercise pen area when we have stepped out and a few times when we are home to try to get him used to it. The first time we out him in there he wailed for 45 mins and eventually settled. I've gradually started putting him in the bed in his exercise pen when he falls asleep. At first he would freak out when he'd wake up in there but now he's a bit more calm. He still cries bloody murder if we put him in there though.

I'm hoping that some of you can either give me some pointers or maybe tell me this is normal and he will adjust. I was just so spoiled in this regard with Cooper (he was nutso in other ways lol).

Any help you can provide would be great. We are trying to ignore the crying and show a bit of tough life but also don't want this little guy to have anxiety!

Thank you?

Elizabeth

Hope you've solved your problem by now. If not, try putting a hot water bottle in his crate along with a ticking clock and plush stuffed toy. These items replicate being with his mom & siblings - warmth and heartbeat.

Good luck.
