Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Are Aussiedoodles suppose to have thier tails docked? The breeder docked my aussiedoodle Bella's tail. I don't see many of them with docked tails.
Thanks Mindi

I'm new here but hopefully you will understand my position.
My one and only litter from my pets(read my bio) produced 7 of the most adorable puppies I have ever seen. I didn't even know there was an "Aussiedoodle". I had heard of labrodoodles and had just seen my first Goldendoodle when my Aussie became pregnant. I am not a breeder for gosh sakes and have had dogs all my life(Border Collies) but had never had puppies. I started to look on the internet to see if I could find what a poodle crossed with an Aussie would look like. Imagine my surprise. Then I saw how much people were charging for these guys. WOW. I guess it is a full time job if you are a breeder and have a facility to maintain, but jeesh. Nobody jump down my throat that raises these wonderful creatures for a living. Most prices on the internet I found were reasonable. Some out west were charging more than i paid for my first car. And tires. And gas. For a year.
I'll just say I didn't have any problem finding them homes with what I charged for them. (covered my vet cost)
Anyway, my vet checked both parents and everybody was extremely healthy. When the pups came out, I took them to be examined and the vet gave them a clean bill of health. That's when she asked me if I was going to dock the tails. I said I don't know, are you supposed to? She said Aussies have natural bob or docked tails and so do poodles, so now is the time if you're going to. So I did. I don't know if it was the right thing to do or not, but Hank has the goofiest personality of any dog I have ever seen. I can't imagine loving him anymore than I do. He has a great butt wiggle(he gets it from his mom).
All I know is, if I were to ever have another litter ever again, I wouldn't dock the tails.
It was a great experience for me and the kids, but I will probably leave it up to the professionals from now on.
I LOVE looking at all the pictures.
