Can any PNW members recommend a pet friendly vacation home?  I've heard Cannon Beach is nice but if you have another recommendation, would love to hear about it.  Thanks!

Hi Julie I have been waiting to see if there are any replies here...sorry there are none so far. We have 2 doods and would love to take them with us when we travel.  Have you looked at vrbo.com?  I think they list vacation houses for rent and say whether they are pet friendly.  I have also heard Cannon Beach has pet friendly spots but unsure which ones.
There are tons of pet friendly houses as vacation rentals in cannon beach and surrounding beach towns. VRBO as mentioned above is a good spot. I can't remember the other sites but if you google 'vacation rentals cannon beach' you will find helpful sites. We rented a simple cottage for a very good price (though not right on the beach) with three medium to large dogs. It was great!
I had never heard of VRBO so I'm going to start my search.   I haven't ever been to Cannon Beach but have heard nice things about it.  I just want to go somewhere to see my dogs in the water.   :0)   Thanks!
Hi, Julie--I don't have any recommendations for pet friendly homes, but if you decide on a motel you could check out the Tolovana Inn's web site.  It's right on the beach in Cannon Beach--the web site has info about rules for pets.
Thanks!!

What are the rules for dogs on the beach (in Cannon Beach or Ocean Shores)?  Are there certain areas that they are allowed off leash?

What I had read or heard (this was in 2007 or 2008) was that after labor day dogs were allowed off leash on the beach.  But when we did that we got mixed signals.  So ... might be worth checking with their Chamber of Commerce or other local govt/animal control/city hall so you get it right.  Because our two doodles decided that the wide open shore meant they had to run as fast as they could in any direction and they went to visit a young girl with her family (and scared her half to death with their size) and we didn't want more trouble, we found more secluded areas and let them run free there.  But the town itself is SUPER dog friendly.

The above link might help provide info.  Traveler stays pretty close to me (so far!) and has good recall (again--so far!) so I just look around and use my own judgment.  If there's nobody and nothing close around, I'll let him go, and quickly leash him up again if another person or dog appears.  I've let him be off-leash and greet a couple of other off-leash dogs and owners, but that's only happened a couple of times.  Other times I've been at the beach and he's stayed on-leash as there were just too many tempting people/dogs around.  Early mornings have been especially good for off-leash running on the beach.

Oooh I found where we stayed: http://www.vacationrentals.com/vacation-rentals/3927.html -- it does not have a fenced yard, but for potty breaks we tied a 20 foot leash to the tree in the backyard (small) and let each dog go out for 5 minutes or so.

Thanks so much!!
we love Cannon Beach, OR + Copalis Beach, WA. Check out Ocean Crest Resort in WA (dogs OK offleash) and Tolovana Inn in OR (at the south end of CB - beach less crowded + dogs are allowed offleash as long as they are under voice control).
