We are going to be seeing and critiquing oodles of doodles in the Calendar Discussion. So here's some- thing different, which may result in fewer responses, not a bad thing considering we have so many ongoing discussions and now the calendar. Camilla suggested it and I like the idea. Let's go out and take some portraits of people out and about. Richard Crowe always does a great job of this.

Ok, I have a question......when taking pictures of strangers.....does one do it on the sly?   And if so, is it ok to post online for anyone to see?    I  feel a little uncomfortable doing this.....soooooo....I'll wait to see what others post.   I'm thinking I'll know the shot when I see it.

I have a problem with it too. I don't want to look like a creepy stalker with a camera.

I thought you had to get signed releases from people you don't know.

Unless you have a super long zoom, I'd feel uncomfortable taking shots of random people.

I think the way Richard Crowe does it is pretty cool. He just posted pictures from a trip where he photographed the locals going about their everyday lives. It wasn't creepy at all, and very authentic and cool. As far as the photo releases, I'm fairly sure that it's only a legal issue if you are using a person's photo for commercial reasons without permission.

I think people in public don't have much in the way of rights against random pictures. That said you could always ask. The odds of any of our photos, in a small group upsetting anyone are very small. It's not like FB : )

hehe....I can just imagine that I somehow managed to get someone's Uncle with his "not wife" vacationing here in the Lakes Region...

Thanks all......now I will go out and see what I can get!

I guess we could concentrate on kids, less likely to raise worries of affairs but maybe more worries about stalkers. Or take people who look like locals. Etc. we could change the topic, that old be a new one for the group. I guess those who are worried could do people they sort of know or n organized sports event...

Oh no....let's keep the assignment as is!   This will be fun and challenging!

I see no problem in taking snaps of strangers.  If they see me, I may ask permission, but usually if they see a photographer the entire scene changes for the worse (plastic smiles, etc.)

Carol, You can do it without permission when people are in a public place, of course you can always ask permission or beg forgiveness, whatever works for you. :>))

Ha, GMTA.

The pics you post really won't show up anywhere but here if you don't add tags to them. This is a pic I took a couple of weeks ago, I just loved the colors. It was taken at a public beach and I have no idea who it is.

Oh how sweet!!!!
