I'm sure most people have an external hard drive but if not please get one. Our 7 month old Mac crashed yesterday and we could not recover any data. Not even a year old and it bombed!!
DH called me yesterday morning and was having problems. Called Mac support and nothing the tech did worked so had to take it to the Apple store yesterday afternoon. Nothing could be recovered.
Of all the data lost I am mourning the loss of all my photos especially Max's baby pictures. Wish I had put more on DK :-) Granted there were a lot of dupes that could have been deleted but still.
Any preferences on external hard drives? I bought a Seagate suppose to be easy to use.
So please, please if you don't have an external backup get one today!! Save those Doodle pics!!

Judy's computer stopped working and she had not backed up her data. We took it back to Frys Electronics where we bought it and the tech plugged it in and it miraculously started working. However, that got Judy's attention and she now backs up her data on a Iomega external hard drive.
Windows-7 has an automatic backup capability (Control Panel - Backup and Restore - Then follow directions)
I like Iomega because it is plug and play and I have been using a Iomega for years with no problem.
It looks like I will soon need a larger extenal hard drive. Videos eat up space. I noticed a 2-TB Iomega at Fry's for just a bit over $100. I might just purchase one shortly but, I am also going to look into an on-line backup.
I now use www.smugmug.com to store my best images and that is pretty safe. There was one time that I couldn't access my images on smugmug and sent them an email. I got an immediate reply saying that there was no problem with smugmug but, that the problem was with Internet Explorer. They said use firefox to access smugmug. I did so and it worked great.
By the way, I also use a FreeAgent hard drive to backup all my files. I found that I could not erase the backups just by going to my computer. It kept telling me that I did not have PERMISSION to erase the files. However, I found that I could go through Control Panel - Backup and Restore and could erase the old backups that way.
Richard, I also am now using FreeAgent plus have put my photos on Dropbox. We still had our old PC and fortunately it still worked so I was able to retrieve all photos and documents that were on the PC. While i lost my 2011 data I still have all my old photos. I think I was more concerned with losing Max's baby pics than anything else!!
