Canon Wireless Flash

     Several of the newer Canon DSLR cameras have "wireless" flash triggering for off camera flash.  These cameras include the 7D, 60D, T4i and I think the T3i.

     The problem with this "wireless" flash is that it is really an optical infrared trigger and you need line of site between the camera and the flash you want the camera's pop-up flash to trigger the other flash or flashes efficiently.  Sometimes the line of sight is difficult to achieve.

     However, if you reverse the flash so that the red plastic eye is pointing towards the camera, you can often  trigger from a greater distance or from a greater angle than you can if the red plastic eye is pointing forward away from the camera. 

     I thought this was common knowledge but a friend of mine did not know it. So I thought I'd share the tidbit with all of you. 

     Another tidbit is that if you have your flash in high speed sync (HSS) mode and the shutter speed goes down to the maximum camera sync speed of 1/200 or 1/250 second (depending on the model of your Canon DSLR camera) the sync will automatically revert to standard sync.  I keep my flashes in HSS all the time...

Good to know...I have a T3i and just got a speedlight for Christmas!  I am just beginning to learn how to use both my camera and flash.
