I have seen a lot of face painting but, this is one of the most artistic renditions I have ever seen.  She was at the Dia de Muertos celebration at Old Town, San Diego...

WOW! That is quite an image. Definitely not child's play.

Wow!

Here is a Mexican Dance on a stage,  I used my Canon 5D2 and 70-200mm f/4L IS lens at 97mm, hand held at 1/8 second to get the blur. I used my Canon 600EX RT flash for fill in a softbox.  The IS on the lens helped stabilize the camera but, obviously did not stop the dancer.  I wanted to shoot the SUFI (Whirling Dervish) dancers like this in Istanbul. Turkey but, I did not have the opportunity...

In retrospect, I wish that I had a monopod with me and that instead of the softbox, I wish that I just used the built-in diffuser panel on the flash.  I should have shot in 2nd Curtain Sync using a bit stronger light from the flash.  The second curtain sync would have given me a partially frozen image.  I also should have experimented more with shutter speeds.

1/13 second at 70mm

1/60 second at 75mm
