Doodle owners are the best! I saw this article this morning and thought you all may find it interesting, or would want to volunteer to do this in shelters near you:
Good idea! Except, that isn't Seth's blog/website, it is just someone (Moira McLaughlin) who posted about his photography. Maybe she wants to join us too though! ;)
Good photos of rescue dogs are important. They are, in many cases, LIFE AND DEATH IMPORTANT... Many if not most rescue organizations use www.petfinder.com or some other websites like it to advertise their available dogs. In many high-kill shelters, a dog's life depends on the interest it gets from the picture posted on the Web. An image of a dirty, disheveled dog cowering in the back of a pen or an out of focus fuzzygraph of a dog doesn't generate much interest.
The American Maltese Association had one of its dogs on petfinder for several weeks with absolutely no hits. The dog was living in a foster home near Los Angeles. The picture was really pretty bad. The foster parent brought this dog to us and I shot a decent image. All of a sudden there was interest generated in this dog. The Maltese is now in a forever home.
It doesn't take a load of equipment or any tremendous photo skills to shoot a decent picture of a dog. However, the folks in many rescue organizations are overworked and don't have the time to do a decent job.
