Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hey guys!

I am in Puerto Rico for two months with my mini-labradoodle Charlie Brown. From the first day at the beach he dove right in after the frisbee... But after a bunch of trips his butt is still sinking. He can move through the water but I am scared he can't keep himself safe with only the front two paws. Has anyone else had this issue? Do they eventually learn to level out? Is there anything I can do to help him along?

Murphy was the same way!! And it didn't bother him one bit that he would sink to the bottom. I had to jump in and rescue him several times. I kept a life jacket on him if he was near water unattended. He learned to kick with his back feet at 9 months. I don't know if it is an age thing or just experience. I worked with him alot in the pool, but it took him 2-3 months to become a good swimmer where he didn't have to have a life jacket on for safety. Murphy is a great swimmer now. Good luck.

OMD this an oldie but a goodie!  Rosey just started swimming in the pool and I was looking for advice on the ears but saw this because she too right now is a front paw swimmer.  I guess I need to keep in there with her until she keeps her back up!!

before she would just swim in the sandbar on lakes and shallow rivers, but it is a deep pool!
