Shelly from Almond Blossom told me about this site. We are getting a puppy May 16 from Tula and Micah's litter.
We are planning to crate train at least in the beginning. From those of you who have puppies from their previous litters what size crate do you recommend? Petsmart and Petco have wire crates with dividers (so we can partician off part of the crate when the puppy is little). I was debating about the 30" crate for up to 40 lbs or the 36" crate for up to 70 lbs.
Any advice would be appreciated. We're new to all of this.
I got the medium size wire style for up to 40 lbs. It works well. Lucca is around 31 lbs at 7 months and he still fits it well even though he doesn't really use it anymore. As a pup we used the divider for awhile. at night I covered the top and sides to keep the light out. I like the wire crate because they can look around instead of just out the front. It seemed friendlier! Lucca is from Tula/Micah Sept 19th 2008 litter. You'll be very happy with these dogs. They're GREAT:) Good Luck
Hi, Dianne
Our Toby is from the Tula/Micah litter born March 4, 2008. He is a lightweight at 37 lbs. We started with a 36" crate with the divider panel but he quickly outgrew it. We now have him in a 48" long crate which is plenty long enough that he can stretch out. We purchased the iCrates at PetSmart. The divider panel will be very helpful in the beginning for training. Let us know if you have any other questions and we'll be glad to help. Congratulations on your new puppy. Only a week to go... so exciting!
Diane - we ar getting a puppy from Tula and Micha on the 16th as well. We bought the 30" crate and plan to use the divider at first.
It looks like you have different pictures then I do. I don't have the one you have on your page. Can you send them to me at jrwilkins1@comcast.net. I have two small boys that just can't get enough puppy pictures. I would really appreciate.
Thanks and let's stay in touch - our puppies will be related.

Hi Diane
I'm also getting a puppy from Tula and Micha on the 16th!! Can you also send me your profile picture? I didn't get that one either. ( joycechen@gmail.com )
So far we have 4 people in contact who are getting the 3/28/09 puppies. You, Paula, Jodi, and me! so excited!!
Diane, Our Kachi is a pup from Tula and Micah as well. Now that he is a year old, he weighs 57 lbs! My husband and I bought the bigger crate that had a divider so that we could make it smaller, and I remember thinking at the time that our crate was way too big. Well, guess what? He really fills it up now. It's just big enough for him to stand up and turn around, and lie back down!! Just keep in mind, if you pick a big puppy, he'll be a bigger dog. Just to give you an idea of what I mean...Toby, who is also in our AB group, is Kachi's birth brother. He's 37 lbs! So you just never know!!
I can't wait to see pics of your new baby!!! Congratulations!
Thanks for all the advice. Alma is now 5 months old and uses her 30" crate occasionally - with the doors left wide open. It was the right size for her when she was little. Now that she is 28 lbs I'm not sure that I would leave her in there for extended periods. She loves to stretch out when sleeping. She is incredibly good in the house when we leave her alone and at night so we don't need to crate her. It was a great tool for house training her in the beginning.
