Do you love them or hate them and why? Was your childhood ruined by a mom on a mission to collect all the antiques she could get her hands on?? This discussion is in honor of Joanne :)

Love them, always have.  My Mom was into them as well.  Our home is a collection of Antique, primitive and Americana.  I sort of got on the Americana kick back when 9-11 happened, and have just never gotten away from it.  When the guys were here installing our kitchen counter tops after we moved in, as they were carrying in everything,  every time one of them entered the house I would hear them say something like "living room, upper right corner, kitchen above the refer", finally figured out they were searching for items with flag stars!  It was a little funny.

 

The majority of our antiques came from what we called "junk shops" in ENGLAND when we were stationed there in the late 80's.  You were able to pick up things there for pennies on the dollar compared to here in the US.  After we moved back to the US, we were all invited to the bosses house for breakfast one morning.  I noticed that the table we were sitting at was an exact match of one we had purchased in the UK!  His purchased in an antique store in the US, ours for like $30 in a junk shop in ENGLAND.

Amazing story about the table. I bought a white iron bed for my oldest daughter years ago. It was my first major antique purchase...most of my previous antiques were acquired from family members who were discarding their "junk". Years later, I met a woman who became my best friend and the first time I went to her house and was being shown around, I see her daughter has the exact same bed. These are old, old beds, so that was really interesting :) You were so lucky to get to shop in England. BTW, my mom HATES antiques.
