Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I've been looking for information about what defines a true red and all that I have found so far is that they should have black points. Does anyone know the difference between red and dark apricot? I think Noah is red, but he's beginning to get some blondish highlights.

Great pictures! Love the one with ears flying especially. Adina is going to do a front page slide show for us so watch for it. Noah looks very red to me. There are descriptions of labradoodle colors online. Apricot is described as the inside of an apricot- not much help there. It may be a subjective term since there are no breed standards for labradoodles or goldendoofles- at least I don't think there are any. The only thing I have seen is what you mentioned. Black nose leather

Hi Jane,
I guess I'd consider my Grover red....while Scrappy is cream with slight apricot highlights. I always thought the true reds were more on the Irish Setter red color. The apricots are more of a strawberry blonde type of color. Some days Grover, at almost 8 months, seems very dark red......lately, I notice more golden on his head. I don't know what the breeding standards say though.

currently your puppy looks red but I can see new growth on her face that is much lighter which suggests that she will be apricot when she gets older.

Troby's Sage is also an apricot, her mother Fancy is a red.
Hi Kendra- thanks! Someday I want to meet Fancy.

Hi -- Ruby, my multi-gen ALD has a red coat, but has a chocolate nose and brown eyes. Does that mean that technically she isn't red? Or that is not the ideal pairing of red hair and brown nose? I'm a little confused. I'd appreciate any clarification.
thanks
Jane, actually there are real standards for each type of breeding. There is an Association for the Labradoodle and Australian Labradoodle called the International Labradoodle Association. The Goldendoodle association is called GANNA, I cant remember what that stands for but it is there and there is a standard. Good breeders breed toward a standard.
I dont really know anyone doing multigen goldendoodles as I myself have no breeding connections to that cross. I really feel it is a different breed and tried not to lose focus on my dogs by studying what other breeders are doing with a different breed.

You should be able to use what the ILA has to learn more about coats but there will be some differences.

I am happy to help you in any way that I can but I would be looking at your dog from the prospective of the Australian Labradoodle.
Pam, if one wants a technically answer Ruby is a Caramel. The rose nose controls that. Most all doodles have a shade of brown eyes.

I'm glad you asked this question! This group is great Sami was the only red (or maybe its apricot now?) doodle I'd really seen before I stumbled across DK. Great info, and Noah is a very handsome doodle :)
